Dragon Boating

Active Directory

Want to meet great people, improve your fitness and paddle for your state or country…dragon boating is the sport for you!

A dragon boat crew generally consists of 18-20 paddlers, a sweep and a drummer. The crew works together to move the boat through the water by harmonising rhythm and applying strength and technique. Generally the crews will train towards major regattas, such as the National Dragon Boat Championships hosted in March and April.

Competition distances include 200m, 500m, 1000m, 2000m and if you join an International Campaign, you might even find yourself in a 5km race! The diverse range of Dragon Boating clubs around Canberra, new or experienced, male or female from any age group.  Regardless of what your reason is for joining the club, be it friendships, fitness or your drive to compete, there is something to suit everyone.

Some of Australia’s most recognised events are hosted by the International Breast Cancer Paddling Commission, which supports breast cancer survivors in Australia, Canada and Florida. For the women of Canberra who have experienced a family member or friend who has experienced breast cancer, dragon boating is the perfect avenue to find a support network of likeminded women who will ultimately become your family.
