When you start a diet…

You genuinely feel you’re going to make it this time! You eat all the ‘junk’ food in the house so it’s not there to eat when the diet starts.

You’re so motivated for your new diet that you have a ‘last hurrah’.

This is when you eat all the things that you’re going to cut out, the day before the diet starts. Wine, chocolate, hot chips, creamy pasta with garlic bread. Cheesecake? Yes! Give me all the food.

Once you’re dieting, you make it one week, or more…

But after a while, things start to unravel. You let all the new changes go over the weekend. You’ve been ‘good’ this week and you’ll start again on Monday. You wake up Monday still full and slightly hungover.

Once you’re dieting…

Anytime you’re faced with a time poor evening it’s take away and “I’ll try again tomorrow.” You weren’t organised today so you’ll wait the 30 minutes for Asian takeaway (the same time taken to whip up a vegetable omelette – three times).

While you’re dieting…

You’re hungry, tired and bored. So bored. The meals are bland and tasteless. If you have to eat chicken and sweet potato one more time you’ll scream.

Your inner monologue goes something like this: “Remember, abs are made in the kitchen. I want a doughnut.”

When it’s all said and done 

What’s the point of all this stress, if it doesn’t serve you long term?

Why try diet after diet and send yourself crazy with food rules?

I say to my clients all the time: Do you want to struggle with the same issues with food in 20 year’s time?

They all say no. The answer is not a new diet, more willpower and just being able to stick to it better.

The answer is changing your habits around food, the things you do automatically to make the healthy choice the easy choice.

The answer is a long-term, sustainable approach to eating food.

It’s ending the binge-restrict cycle and finding balance.

It’s saying no to fads and yes to nutritious wholefoods.
