Wanderlust 108 – The Mindful Triathlon

It’s no secret that Canberra loves a triathlon, and Wanderlust 108 is one like you’ve never seen before…

As the nation’s most active city, triathlons are kind of our jam. Run, ride and swim—sure, it’s a good way to keep active—but what about your mind and heart?

Wanderlust 108 is the world’s first and only mindful triathlon, and it’s coming to Canberra on Saturday 21 October at a new venue, on the Patrick White Lawns.

Unlike the traditional variety, this triathlon incorporates a five kilometre run (or walk), 75 minutes of yoga and a 30-minute guided meditation to help you get your bliss on.

What do you get when you cross the finish line? Well, there’s no trophy, but we’ll do you one better: how about a full day of self-awareness and inner peace with a vibrant community?

Let’s talk mindfulness

Mindfulness is a wellbeing trend that’s taking the world by storm, and for good reason. It’s linked to greater focus and mental clarity, lower levels of stress, greater compassion for others, and even improved body image.

The benefits are practically endless and Wanderlust 108 is the perfect way to dip your toes in the water if you’re new to ‘this whole mindfulness thing’, or to celebrate if you consider yourself a bit of a guru. The whole aim of Wanderlust 108 is to foster individual wellness and positive social change by building a large community around mindfulness.

Mindful munchies

After you’ve got your sweat, stretch and om on, you’ll no doubt be hungry. You can get yourself some lunch at one of the excellent healthy food stalls, with locally-sourced whole foods. What better to wash that down with than an icy cold fermented beverage from the Kombucha Garden by MOJO?

Activities aplenty

Stomach filled, you’re free to peruse the clothing, essential oils, jewellery, and yoga goodies at the Mindful Market, inspired by our local community . There’s also a range of scheduled activities on offer, which you can register for in advance. Options include acroyoga, hooping, aerial yoga, a walking meditation, or an essential oil workshop. Otherwise, you’re free to sit back and relax on the lawns overlooking the lake with your friends.

Good vibes only

One of the special parts of Wanderlust 108 is that you’re included in this incredible community of like-minded people who are there for the same purpose: to cultivate their best selves, and to have a fun day out.

There’s a real sense of ‘togetherness’. It’s the kind of event where there’s lots of high fives, lots of reaching out and touching your neighbour, and of course the chance to meet lots of local yogis and wellbeing enthusiasts. Head along with an open heart and mind, and you’ll be rewarded with plenty of fun and inspiration.

It’s for every body

Literally. It also doesn’t matter how experienced you are in yoga and meditation—everybody is welcome. Everything is scalable for you, so there’s always a gentler option for those new to yoga and meditation, or more advanced options for bendy yoga veterans. It’s an event where you’ll leave feeling good about yourself, irrespective of your level of fitness or flexibility.

Head along by yourself (you’re guaranteed to make friends), with your bestie, partner or why not bring the kids? Children 13 and under are free, and you’re more than welcome to bring along your pram.
