We’re bringing ACTIVE Week back

Ashleigh Went

Last year, we launched HerCanberra ACTIVE and hosted the inaugural ACTIVE Week.

We asked sporting groups and health and fitness providers across the Canberra region to give our readers the opportunity to participate in an activity for free during ACTIVE Week.

The generosity of our sport and fitness community was overwhelming. More than 60 businesses, instructors or organisations got on board and hosted an activity or event. It was an incredibly valuable opportunity for our readers to try a new sport, class, or activity at no cost, without the hassle of finding friends to come along, or mustering the courage to go it alone. It took the intimidation factor out of trying something new, because we were all in it together.

We loved seeing photos of our readers getting active, trying everything from BMX, to pole dancing, to netball, weightlifting, canoeing, floorball, yoga, synchronised swimming and much, much more.

The whole purpose of HerCanberra ACTIVE is to encourage and inspire women moving their bodies in whatever way feels good to them. To see our community of readers getting involved and trying new ways to get active – moving, laughing, sweating and connecting with themselves and each other, was truly spectacular.

It is with great excitement that we announce we’ll be hosting our second ACTIVE Week from Monday 30 April to Sunday 6 May.

Want to host a free ACTIVE event?

If you are a business who’d like to host a free event during ACTIVE Week, you can register here. By being a part of ACTIVE Week, you’re putting your business in front of our 125,000 unique readers per month—many of whom are Canberra women between 20 and 45. We want as many women in Canberra to get active—with you. We want them to fall in love with a new way of moving their body, or an old, forgotten favourite.

Your event could be anything from staging a free ‘come and try’ session, a free class pass or trial, or anything else that gives people a chance to get active in a low risk and accessible environment. You’ll be responsible for organising and running the event, and the receipt of registrations—helping you connect with Canberra women.

If you want to get involved but you’re not quite sure how, just drop me a line at [email protected].

Of course, it wouldn’t be ACTIVE Week without ACTIVE Day—a HerCanberra event where we’re joining with some of Canberra’s best studios, instructors and experts to bring you a day bursting with all things health, fitness and wellness. Expect massive group fitness classes, local activewear and plenty more on Sunday 29 April.

You can find out what’s on offer by keeping an eye on our ‘what’s on’ section, or following HerCanberra ACTIVE on Facebook for updates.
