ACT Labor welcomes Meegan Fitzharris

Jessica Schumann

meeganIt was with great pleasure that ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr joined Meegan Fitzharris, the next member of the ACT Legislative Assembly, for a tour of the new ACT Government Gungahlin Office block today in Canberra’s north.

Passionate about Gungahlin, Meegan comes to her new role in the Legislative Assembly with a strong background in strategic public policy and experience in various roles in the Government and Private sector. But it’s her personal experience running a small business that provides her with firsthand knowledge of the challenges small business owners face and that will set her in good stead with the community of both Gungahlin and Canberra abroad.

Meegan’s passion for Canberra’s northern hub will ensure that Canberra’s fastest growing community is represented in the Assembly.

Having lived with her partner and their three children since 2007, Meegan has advocated for many developments in the region including the ACT Government office block and the Gungahlin cinema development.

By her fellow Labor colleagues, Meegan has already been recognised as a valued member of the ACT Labor team in the Legislative Assembly and will work had to ensure the ACT Government continues to deliver services and infrastructure that the community needs in a fiscally responsible manner.

Both the Chief Minister and Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Defence and Member for Canberra, Gai Brodtmann, have welcomed and shared heir well wishes to Meegan and have no doubt her contribution in the Assembly will be significant.

The Federal Labor MP mentored Meegan throughout her election campaign in 2012 and expressed delight in hearing she will now be representing the people of Molonglo following former ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher’s resignation.

A strong and successful advocate for her community, there is no doubt that Meegan will step into her role confidently and make a significant contribution to the Assembly.
