Artists call for the secrets of Canberra

HerCanberra Team

Shhh! A group of Canberra poets want you to tell them your secrets.

As part of the 2015 Art, Not Apart Festival, The Secrets Transmutation Service (or STS) will turn secrets from around the region into poetry for performance at the free festival on Saturday 14 March.

Local artist, poet and secret custodian, Jacqui Malins says the secrets are being “harvested” through channels to suit everyone – from 10 “secret deposit stations” around Canberra to snail-mail, e-mail and anonymous online submissions.

“We’ll turn the local secrets into poems for Art, Not Apart,” says Jacqui, “and festival-goers can join us to do the same.”

“If you submit a secret or you’re just curious about poetry – come along because we’ll be running lounge-style poetry workshops throughout the day.

“We’ll perform some of the poems and publish them in interactive ways.”

People can contribute poems digitally – by receiving one of the secrets from the STS team and tweeting a haiku, for example.

Other secrets will rise, balloon-borne, into the atmosphere for someone or no-one to find.

The STS will be accepting online secret submissions in the lead up to March 14 and throughout the one-day festival.
