Canberra Region Tourism Awards

The best of the best in the Canberra and region tourism industry last night celebrated together at the 30^th annual Canberra Region Tourism Awards.

National Capital Attractions Association Representative and Chair of Judges, Garry Watson, said the night was highly successful with the major awards going to some very well deserved winners.

“Questacon, the National Science and Technology Centre won the award for Tourist Attractions, and Floriade 2014 scooped the pool for Major Festivals and Events,” said Garry.

Last night’s winners also included the 2015 National Folk Festival for Festivals and Events, Canberra Airport for Specialist Tourism Services, Hotel Realm for Luxury Accommodation, and regionally, the Yass Valley Information Centre for Visitor Information Services.

 “Each year Canberra is growing in both its role as the national capital, but also increasingly as a tourist destination.

“The Government and agencies such as VisitCanberra and the National Capital Attractions Association work very hard with all of Canberra’s cultural institutions, the hotel industry and all tourist attractions to do our best to attract more visitors and groups to the national capital,” Garry continued.

He went on to say that Australians and overseas visitors are coming to Canberra in greater numbers each year, and that overall there is a greater awareness of and interest in our tourist attractions.

 “The awards once again recognise the importance of tourism to Canberra and the ACT regional economy,” concluded Garry.
