Are you Canberra’s next Rising Star?

HerCanberra Team

Every now and then a talented star rises up from our city and takes the nation by storm. Lucy Sugerman is the local teen who captured our hearts from the moment she appeared on stage on The Voice earlier this year. Amber Nichols garnered attention on the same show in 2015, and has continued to impress with every sparkling performance since.

Is there another Canberran waiting to be discovered? Hyperdome Shopping Centre has made it their mission to find out, hosting their second Rising Star Talent competition. So if you’ve ever watched The Voice or Australia’s Got Talent and thought ‘that should be me’ – now is your chance.

The stakes are high: there’s the chance to perform in front of a live crowd, meet some celebs, win a $1,000 Hyperdome gift card and—of course—fame and glory.

Whether you sing, dance or play an instrument, there are categories for both the young and the young at heart. There will be twelve finalists selected from two categories: Junior – Under 15, and Senior – 15 and over.

Interested in competing? To enter, you need to record a 30 second clip of your dance or music performance, upload it and send the link of your performance to [email protected] by 11.59pm this Friday 4 August.

Your performance will then be judged by an all-star panel including Julie Goodwin, winner of MasterChef in 2009; Kayo Marbilus, ARIA charting artist; Amber Nichols; and Samson Smith, member of Justice Crew and competitor on Australian Ninja Warrior.

The twelve finalists selected by the judges will perform on the day and each will take home a prize.

It’s not all about the performers though – there will be plenty on offer for spectators. Kayo, Amber and Samson will be performing live at the Rising Star Competition, while Julie will be signing copies of her latest creation, “Julie Goodwin’s Essential Cookbook.”

Not to mention, you’ll get to see locals perform for the title of Canberra’s Rising Star, and be entertained by Hit 104.7’s breakfast presenter Ryan Jon, who will be hosting the event.

Last year, Lucy Sugerman took out the title of inaugural Rising Star. If her rise to fame is anything to go by, we can expect big things from this year’s winner.

The live competition will take place on Saturday August 19 from 1.30-4pm at the Hyperdome Centre Court.
