Bake a cupcake, change a life

HerCanberra Team

The sweetest day of the year is back again with RSPCA’s Cupcake Day!

During the month of August people are joining the fight against animal cruelty in the loveliest and tastiest way possible: beating eggs, whipping cream, and pinching sugar.

Your frosty creations of sprinkles and whip cream may not seem like they are saving lives but they are making a significant impact in improving the lives of so many; the animals that are rehabilitated and rehomed and the human families that are granted the gift of their new pet’s love.

Abuse, neglect and homelessness are just a few of the reasons an animal may find themselves at the RSPCA shelter in Weston. The animals that arrive through our doors are often arriving when they are at their lowest.

This was the case with Clara. Clara is a 13-year-old majestic cat with the soulful eyes found herself wandering the grounds of Geoscience. Weighing only 2.1kg and having a body score of 1/9, this regal feline carried herself as if she were twice the weight and three times the height.

Despite initial fears for her health, Clara proved herself to be a survivor. She was surprisingly bright and healthy for her age with a full set of pearly white teeth to match. But she desperately needed to put on weight.A month after arriving at the shelter and being hospitalised and desexed; it was decided that Clara could go up for adoption. Clara was the definition of survivor and nothing would stop her from finding her forever home!

This sassy cat was no wallflower and she definitely knew how to strut her stuff! Despite the tough life that Clara had been living, she was an incredibly cuddly and affectionate lap-cat. The staff knew that it wouldn’t be long until she captured the hearts of a new family and they were proven right! Not long after she was put up for adoption she was on her way to her new home.

Clara’s story is just one of many. Each animal that comes through our doors have their own stories of survival and defiance against the odds.

RSPCA ACT is able to give much-needed second chances to hundreds of animals every year; second chances because of the generosity of the Canberra community.

It is because of your ongoing support, donations and fundraising efforts that we are able to care and protect animals like Clara; save them from suffering, and help them find their forever homes.

Thank you for baking with us and fighting animal cruelty and neglect with cupcakes.

This Cupcake Day, remember every cupcake makes a difference.

There is still time to register and get your friends, family and colleagues on board this sweet cause!
