Friday Night Fever

HerCanberra Team

“It’s kinda like all the fun parts of a wedding but no need to take a present, no creepy uncle, and no speeches!” It’s first Friday night of the month at The Duxton…

Last week, the HerCanberra Team were invited to check out a new bar with an, er, rather young and frisky name. While the younger members were über excited, for the more ‘mature’ of us it was open season on ‘old and lifeless’ jokes.

When we’d finished cracking ourselves up, talk turned to the serious question of where people in their 30s and 40s can go dancing with their friends or partners, where they’ll actually know the music, and feel safe (and not like dinosaurs). Turns out the answer was waiting in our inbox.

The same day we received an email from The Duxton, introducing a new monthly event aimed squarely at those of us who love good food, live music and dancing but feel they’ve outgrown nightclubs. Hell, you may be in your twenties and over that scene.

On the first Friday of each month, they’re opening up The Oak Room for Twist and Shout – a night of big band music, a three-course meal and the chance to have a boogie. It’s kinda like all the fun parts of a wedding but no need to take a present, no creepy uncle, and no speeches! And it’s only $45 per person…

The series kicks off this Friday 6 May and The Duxton has locked in one of Canberra’s best dance bands, Big Boss Groove. Their two amazing vocalists, three-piece horn, and rhythm section will keep you entertained and coax you out of our seat. And you can request songs you know and love!

If you already have plans for this week, get Friday 3 June into your diaries for the next instalment featuring Hit Parade’s mix of rock, motown, soul, funk, and disco.

Bookings are essential. Email [email protected] or phone 6162 0799 to secure your spot and get your dancing shoes ready.
