Hidden Gems: Five Unique Canberra Party Locations

Courtney Carr

When you throw a party or an event you want it to be a memorable occasion.

A great way to make your party stand out for all the right reasons is to host it in a unique venue or location, instead of at one of the popular places that everyone you know has also hosted their celebrations at before.

While the trending locations around town are trending for good reasons, make a splash this Spring by celebrating in one of these hidden gems around Canberra.

 Canberra Railway Museum

The Canberra Railway Museum is a perfect place for weddings or birthday parties for train enthusiasts everywhere, or even for a host who might want to put a twist on a vintage, Steampunk or a 1920’s themed party.

The station is located in trendy Kingston and you can host your party or function sailing along Canberra’s branch line to Fyshwick, Bungendore or Tarago in a heritage carriage or steam-hauled train.

With a DJ in the dance car and a delicious feast in the dining carriage, this venue will definitely give your guests something to talk about! If you don’t want to book out the whole train, you could book a specific carriage on one of the train’s cruising journeys, or even just check out the museum while you are having a delicious lunch in the park nearby.

The options are endless and unique, and you might just learn a thing or two in the process.

Canberra Glassworks

Kingston is one of the hottest spots in town nowadays, but the Canberra Glassworks has been one of the standing draw cards to the area long before all the cool cafes and bars opened up. Situated within the historical and industrial style of the Kingston Powerhouse, this building is dedicated to contemporary glass art and makes a spectacular background to your next event.

Your guests can walk around the gallery and look at the amazing art that is on display, purchase from the store (now that is an outstanding party favor to take home with you!) and you can even arrange for a glass-blowing demonstration to be held just for your guests. Having your next event at the Canberra Glassworks is destined to be a party your guests will never forget!

It’s got a lot of buzz happening around it, but the industrial chic of Canberra’s newest market place is destined to make any party cool. The Westside Acton Park is designed as a temporary pop-up market made of shipping containers and exposed metal piping and makes its mark on Lake Burley Griffin with its vibrant grunge style that can be seen for miles away.

The Aviary is Canberra’s first rooftop bar and boasts excellent views of some of Canberra’s famous sights, such as Parliament House, Black Mountain and Telstra Tower. With DJ’s mixing tunes late into the night, and room for up to 200 of your closest friends, this is a venue that you simply have to check out for your next party.
