Bettina Richter

Keen to get to the Folkie this year, but don’t know where to start?

Too busy to write a list? Here are our eight essentials for all you need to know.

Plan Your Visit

Don’t just rock up – plan your visit. The full festival program is now live on the festival website. Decide which performers are on your unmissable list, what workshops you want to sign up for and make a decision if you want to attend Friday, Saturday or Sunday night or go the whole festival motza experience. And don’t forget to buy a souvenir program upon arrival and BYO highlighter.

Ghost Noises

Ghost Noises

Don’t miss experiencing this exciting new pleasure island at the festival for the young at heart, or those seeking a new adventure. Participate in some crazy croquet, be wowed by the nightly fire drawings or bang a huge Japanese drum at the Taiko workshop. Witness the flip-side of folk with edgy fantastical acts, dance till you drop or take some time out in the chill-out zone.

Parking FAQs

Free parking is available at Gate 7 on Old Well Station Road off the Federal Highway. Patrons can access the Entertainment Zone via shuttle bus or a dedicated walking path. BYO Water Bottle and Taste the Food of the World

FolkFestival_3

Water is a must-have essential item at the Folk Festival. Keep up your energy and stay hydrated so you can dance, sing, strum and play late into the night! Bring your own water bottle and refill it regularly at the free water refill stations at the National Folk Festival. Eat your way around the World at the Festival with the many eating options available from savouring some Ethiopian to Madras cuisine, munching on veggie-burgers or noshing up at the Cuban Cantina. Get your coffee fix, sip on some chai or nibble something sweet.

Have Fun and Try Something New

There’s a reason the Festival’s mantra is “five days in a perfect world”. Above all, the aim is to have fun! Step out and try something new and you won’t regret it. Unearth your favourite new band, join the Festival Choir, learn how to play the banjo, make a flower crown, discover the art of bookbinding, take a yoga class, tune up and perform at a blackboard venue, or expand your mind at one of the many talks and themed events.

See you at the Folkie!
