Writers, note Noted

Calum Stenning

March 2017 will see the return of Canberra’s Noted writers festival for its third year, and applications for festival artist features are now open.

Last year the festival featured 90 local, national and international artists, who led participants through a range of events, from performances and workshops to literary pub-crawls, poetry slams and panels.

It’s not just writers (of which any type, style or genre are welcome) who should be getting their applications in though – visual artists, dancers and the like who are interested in literary collaboration are also encouraged to get involved.

In keeping with this all-inclusive spirit, event organisers are encouraging writers who are disabled, from regional or remote areas, who identify as First Nations, are culturally or linguistically diverse and members of the LGBQTIA community to get their applications in too.

“The arts community in Canberra is really accessible and incredibly supportive of its artists,” Lucy says. “It sometimes gets mislabelled as a small arts community but for the population we’re punching above our weight in terms of artistic diversity. And Canberra is full of really informed thinkers and inquiring minds which is a huge boon to any arts project because it means that the audiences that engage with our work are going to provide amazing feedback” says event organiser Lucy Nelson.

Applications close at midnight on Monday 14 November.
