Super Sunday to explore Canberra’s backyard

HerCanberra Team

With a forecast of 22 degrees and sunny for Sunday, the ACT Parks and Conservation Service is getting excited.

The ‘Explore’ program of guided walks and activities in Canberra’s parks and reserves continues this Sunday 13 September with a bumper program of six separate events that will offer something different for the whole family.

“During the month of September a series of guided walks and activities are giving Canberrans an opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy the spring weather,” says Director of the ACT Parks and Conservation Service Daniel Iglesias.

“With Sunday’s weather forecast looking good, it’s a perfect opportunity to get out of the house and participate in a number of outdoor activities that include:

• A chance to feed the pelicans or search for the elusive platypus at Tidbinbilla’s Nature Reserve Sanctuary

• Walk amongst the wattle with a local plant ecologist at Black Mountain Nature Reserve • a 90 minute walk at Mount Painter to learn the history of the Belconnen Hills, how the land has been used over the years and who lived there

• A two hour morning walk through the Mount Majura Nature Reserve with a bird enthusiast to listen and learn about different bird varieties.

• From 10 am till 3 pm, discover the natural wonders at the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve Sanctuary.

“Staff from the ACT Parks and Conservation Service, as well as volunteers and groups, enjoy showing off our beautiful backyard all the time and the ‘Explore’ program of activities is offering that experience to groups right through September,” Mr Iglesias concluded.
