This Week In The Can: Weekend Edit

HerCanberra Team

Every Monday for nearly five years, we’ve published This Week in The Can – but sometimes it’s just too epic to get through!

That’s why we’ve introduced our Weekend Edit… Here are 10 things you shouldn’t miss!

Did you know that this weekend will be one of the biggest in the whole of Summer 2015? Trust us, you need a game plan. Read all about the amazing things happening here.

Old Bus Depot Markets Christmas Market

With just ten Sundays to go until Christmas Day, Canberra’s favourite Sunday markets, the Old Bus Depot Markets, are getting ready to host their popular Christmas markets, on throughout the month of December.

The Old Bus Depot Markets’ Christmas markets will feature handmade gifts and festive items including Christmas wreaths, decorations, table centrepieces, candles, stockings and advent calendars. Live Christmas trees are also an annual favourite, and modern handmade wooden Christmas trees offer an alternative you can style for your own home.

And the food, the glorious Christmas food. The markets will offer delicious Christmas fare including cakes, gingerbread houses, mince tarts, puddings, shortbread, party dips, farmhouse cheeses, olives and more.

At the annual Christmas Stallholder sale markets’ stallholders will be offering exclusive specials and fantastic deals – it’s a great chance for visitors to stock up on everything they need for the festive season.

Usually a Sunday-only affair, the markets will be open on both Saturdays and Sundays throughout December in the lead up to Christmas Day.  This gives more time for customers to find what they’re looking for, and more opportunity for the many stallholders to spread the Christmas cheer.

Christmas at the Old Bus Depot Markets will be open Saturday 5 (stallholder sale) and Sunday 6 December, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December, and Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free. For more information visit

The Forage and Hustle&Scout

Hustle&Scout Twilight Fashion Market and The Forage return for their final event of the year on December 5 at a new location never before used for an event in Canberra – a multi-level car park!

The car park, which will be the event’s third venue for the year, forms part of the recently opened Little National Hotel in Barton. The hotel is situated on the doorstep of Parliament House, boasting spectacular views over iconic landmarks of Canberra. Market organisers, Tegan McAuley and Belinda Neame, were approached by the Doma Group earlier this year with an idea to inject more cultural activity into the precinct and celebrate the opening of the new hotel.

After attracting close to 10,000 visitors to their last event, held at the Old Bus Depot Building in Kingston, this new, unconventional market venue will capture the curiosity of locals.

The Forage, who will be presenting their largest food and drink line-up to date, will be located in the outdoor car park of the hotel. Featuring over 30 vendors, The Forage will welcome a suite of new vendors such as Bush Taco Girls, Yang’s Malaysian Food Truck and Smoothie & Co. The outdoor live music lounge – featuring local talent such as Kaleid, The Feraude Trio and GhostNoises – will lead into the multi-level, above-ground car park where Hustle&Scout will showcase over 60 fashion designers across two, spiralling levels.

Staying true to their mission to provide people with an immersive and unique Canberra experience unlike other markets, visitors can expect an entertainment program that showcases a colourful mix of local creative businesses. In addition to live music, the event will feature crafting workshops by the Maker’s Collective and LLL-Designs, dance performances, live art by local street artist JRB Illustration, hula hooping classes by Hoopbeat and the largest number of roaming models (styled by April’s Caravan) to feature at the event to date. Entry to the event is free.

Visit the Forage website and Hustle&Scout website for more information. On Saturday December 5 from 3pm – 8pm at Little National Hotel, National Circuit, Barton.

Faulty Towers The Dining Experience is a loosely-scripted, pitch-perfect tribute to the famous 1970s television series.

Everything that can go wrong, will. Book now for some hilarious dinner theatre.

Adult: $110.00 – Ticket price includes canapés on arrival, 3 course meal, selected beverages and a 2 hour interactive show. Child: $80.00 – Ticket price includes canapes on arrival, 3 course meal, selected non-alcoholic beverages and a 2 hour interactive show. Price includes canapés on arrival, 3-course dinner, selected beverages and two-hour interactive show.
