FAMILY DAY IN THE MAGICAL SCULPTURE GARDEN AT THE NGA

Sculpture Garden Sunday transforms the garden into a wonderland of creative workshops, performance and installations inspired by the Tom Roberts exhibition and a beautiful outdoor setting.

Be sure to catch the live music concert on the main stage featuring local Mr Tim and the Fuzzy Elbows. Their original rock-out songs will entertain kids and adults alike, and make everyone dance and sing along.

On from 10.30am – 1.30pm this Sunday 28 February at the National Gallery of Australia’s Sculpture Garden, next to the Lake in Parkes Place, Parkes. This is a free event. For more information see the website: nga.gov.au/SculptureGardenSunday

FIX AND MAKE: TOYS FROM TRASH WITH ARVIND GUPTA

Toys From Trash is a kids workshop for 6-11 year olds on Saturday 27 and 12+ years on Sunday 28 February. Make toys and create experiments from household materials usually thrown away with Arvind Gupta – a scientist, day-dreamer, inventor and toymaker who lives and works in India.

Gupta has made more than 700 improvised toys, travelled to more than 3,000 schools and has written 15 books. His website ‘Toys from Trash’ has received more than 41 million views with 20,000 digital books downloaded each day. This workshop will inspire big and little kids, reminding us all that it is possible to create something fun and fascinating from simple materials.

THE COLOUR RUN CANBERRA

12TH NATIONAL AUSTRALIAN PLANTS AS BONSAI EXHIBITION

Canberra Bonsai Society and the Australian National Botanic Gardens are pleased to present the 12th National Exhibition of Australian Plants as Bonsai. See over 30 bonsai from Canberra based and interstate artists which showcase the breadth and diversity of the use of Australian plants in the art of bonsai.

Attend demonstrations at 2pm each day, showcasing the techniques used and considerations needed, when training Australian plants as bonsai.

Take a guided walk through the Gardens, visiting full sized versions of species represented in the Exhibition. Tours depart at noon daily. Groups will be restricted to 15 participants.

DANCING GODDESSES FUNDRAISING SPECTACULAR

Dancing Goddesses Inc is a not-for-profit organisation with the aim of making bellydance accessible to all women including those from disadvantaged backgrounds. After successfully holding classes in Canberra’s south, we are looking to expand our classes into Canberra’s north. We believe in the power of bellydance as a means to celebrate femininity, increase self-esteem and provide a support network for women across all walks of life.

Experience the final event of Chinese New Year in the capital at the Lanterne Festival. See the site in the new Beijing Garden decorated with a multitude of Chinese Lanterns and lights. Watch performances of Chinese traditional music, children’s dances, martial arts and the lion dance. Take part in the hand-made lantern competition and a lantern parade. Bring your own lanterns or buy one there.
