A different kind of date night

HerCanberra Team

Is your idea of a romantic date night NETFLIX on the couch with a tub of Ben & Jerry’s?

Perhaps if you are feeling really adventurous maybe even a trip to the movies on cheap Tuesday (you wild thing, you!)?

Well Spring is finally here to force us out of hibernation, so now is the time to get out and about – tracksuit pants optional.

Why not tempt your significant other with a glass of vino and a picnic, set to some delightful music with the sunset lit National Arboretum as your backdrop? If you love the sound of that, you’re in luck: Voices in the Forest is back in Canberra for the sixth time, and it is bigger and better than ever.

For those of you who don’t know, Voices in the Forest is an outdoor Classical Concert that sees the likes of some of the best that the Opera world has to offer, and this year’s concert is definitely one to write home about. The three headlining performers at this year’s performance are Sally-Ann Russell, Richard Troxell and the Great Sumi Jo (who was up for an Oscar this year!).

The event runs from 6.30pm to-9.30pm, and is a mixture of well-known operatic arias, Broadway and pop songs – so even if you’re not an opera buff you’re likely to hear some familiar tunes.

The concert is on Saturday 19 November, Don’t fret – if you are not quite ready to leave the comfort of your couch just yet, you have some time to prepare!

Richard Troxell

No date night would be complete without food, and The National Arboretum is just perfect for picnics with its luscious grass and space. If you are wanting to get creative and make your romantic night extra special, then make yourself and your date a picnic and bring it along!

The weather tends to be beautiful this time of year so some nice cheese, wine and a smidge of chocolate should compliment the night perfectly. Or if you’d rather someone else do the work, the event offers gourmet picnic hampers by Ginger Catering – so you can eat, listen and relax. Just be sure to pre-order a gourmet hamper or you will be hungrily disappointed!

So, if it’s about time you upgraded date night, grab your partner or even a group of friends and head to Voices in the Forest 2016. It’s well worth shedding the track pants and pressing pause on Netflix, we promise!
