Want to host a campground this Spring?

HerCanberra Team

With the warmer weather rapidly approaching the ACT Parks and Conservation Service is encouraging those with an interest in the great outdoors to become a volunteer host at Woods Reserve or Cotter campgrounds.

Applicants are particularly being sought for the school holiday period from 23 September to 8 October 2017.

“Trained hosts will assist campers by promoting walks and activities, directing people to facilities, updating information boards, providing information on local attractions and help keep the campground clean,” explained Tim Chaseling, Area Manager, Murrumbidgee River Corridor, ACT Parks and Conservation.

“It’s a new approach to having a holiday.”

“If you are suitable we’ll induct you as a campground host and you can use your people skills to help each visitor having a really memorable holiday. As a host, you’ll go away with memories shared with campers too, maybe over a campfire or from bushwalking.

“If you’re a Cotter campground host then you’ll be provided with a place to stay in the fully equipped on-site hut. And while dogs aren’t allowed in national parks, the Woods Reserve is something else to consider where you and your pooch can be the campsite hosts under the light of a million stars.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who loves nature and dealing with people. It is also a great chance for those looking for a future career in the parks and conservation field to gain experience in managing a popular recreation area. Working with the Rangers you will get great experience in helping campers and visitors to our parks.”
