CANBERRA CHORAL SOCIETY’S VOICES IN SPACE

Carols at the High Court.

Carols at the High Court.

Voices in Space, featuring Tobias Cole and the Canberra Choral Society (CCS), will perform contrasting choral works that exploit the unique acoustic qualities of the High Court of Australia. Including Charles Villiers Stanford’s exquisite ‘Blue Bird’, listeners will be amazed by the power of ‘Voices in Space’. Audience members will also have the opportunity to discover the wonders of singing in this vibrant space.

From humble beginnings in 1952 as a small group of people singing for pleasure, the CCS has become one of the most innovative and exciting choirs in the capital. Led by Artistic Director Tobias Cole, CCS is known both for traditional choral repertoire such as Handel’s Messiah and for surprising audiences with new music, new venues, and new ways to experience old favourites.

Tobias Cole is a singer, conductor and educator who, as director of several choirs including CCS Chorus, CCS New Voices, Turner Trebles, Vocal Fry and Lyneham High Voices, has inspired many people of all ages to sing.

Bookings essential, entry free

THE FAITHFUL SERVANT

The_Faithful_Servant_953x303

Ray, The Faithful Servant, has given his all to the medical NGO he founded to help poor communities in Africa. His adopted daughter from Mozambique, Caroline, refuses to follow him – her life is with her family in Australia and her GP practice. Pereira has been Ray’s righthand man in Mozambique for decades, but now wants to transform the NGO into a faithbased organisation.

As the play winds its way back from Ray’s death in Australia to his first encounter with Africa, the conflict between the differing interpretations of goodness takes on a visceral intensity. Being good, it becomes clear, is neither straightforward nor easy. And it poses moral dilemmas that strike at the core of our understandings of community and family.

Happening 3-18 September at The Street Theatre, 15 Childers Street, Canberra. For more information visit www.thestreet.org.au
