With one week to go until Easter, we present our guide to Canberra’s best hot cross buns and other seasonal treats you won’t want to miss.

Baked on Mort

Baked on Mort is celebrating Easter with three varieties of hot cross buns. Classic with cinnamon, raspberry and white chocolate and chocolate chip. Available individually or by the ½ dozen.

Bitten Goodfoods

Bitten will be selling Pana Chocolate Easter treats all weekend. All Pana easter products are raw, organic, handmade, vegan, gluten free, dairy free and refined sugar-free. There will be three types of eggs: Double choc, supreme or caramel lava. 

They’ll also have two types of bunnies: sour cherry vanilla or coconut goji

In addition to chocolate treats, they’ll also be selling No Grainer Hot X Buns, which are paleo, grain free, gluten free and low carb hot x cross buns. Packed full of fruit, nuts and spices with a touch of organic orange zest to balance the flavours. They’ll be selling two types of these buns, the classic and also a version with loving earth chocolate chunks.

Danny’s Bakery buns are back! Danny’s huge, famous handcrafted Easter buns are sourdough and loaded with tons of fruit.

A Canberra tradition, pick them up at 6 Iluka St, Narrabundah.


Deeks have 100% grain free and gluten free hot cross buns without the cheap fillers like rice and corn. They’ve developed recipes that result in delicious and wholesome food that are nutritious and ideal for everybody. Fruit hot cross buns AND choc hot cross buns are available at the shop.

Doughnut Department

Doughnut Department are bringing you something pretty special this Easter. Collaborating with Three Mills Bakery, you will be able to pick up a hot cross bun doughnut with a brown butter glaze in-store on Friday 23 March and then again from Monday 26 March to 29 March.

Available individually or in packs of six. Limited in store so be sure to pre-order your six pack by COB Monday 26 March by emailing [email protected]. Also available will be HCB dough-holes rolled in cinnamon sugar – $4 for a cup of 6.

Enigma Fine Chocolates

Enigma Fine Chocolates has a spin on the traditional hot cross bun, the Indulgent Dome! Celebrating the humble hot cross bun with a layer of vanilla bean caramel, hot cross bun infused ganache and a spiced shortbread base.

All coated in Valrhona 64% Manjari dark chocolate. You can pick up these delectable chocolates at the Old Bus Depot Markets this coming Sunday 25 March (weather permitting) or contact Stuart via email on [email protected] and place your order.

PATISSEZ has put their own spin on the hot cross bun and has come up with a HOT X DOUGHIES. Brandy poached raisins, folded through a cinnamon spiced vanilla bean custard, stuffed into an oven-baked brioche Doughie then finished with a cinnamon dip!

7th & Baked Patisserie & Café
