The Butcher, The Baker and The Merrymaker

Posted on

Renowned winter food destination, Pialligo Estate has partnered with an assortment of producers, makers and connoisseurs to bring Canberrans a month-long series of amazing events celebrating the cold Canberra winter.

Featuring twelve unique and extraordinary events, including midwinter Christmas feasts, a pudding day, long lunches and even a Feather and Bone masterclass, The Butcher, The Baker and The Merrymaker is sure to have something for everyone to enjoy.

“Canberrans tend to hibernate during our colder months,” says Pialligo Estate General Manager, Charlie Costelloe. “So we’re taking inspiration from the Northern Hemisphere tradition of celebrating winter, showing off the very best warming dishes, drinks and produce in events that will excite the tastebuds.”

To kick off the month-long winter celebrations starting on Friday 1 July, attendees are encouraged to don their best Christmas knitwear for a festive feast featuring an extravagant three-course dinner, live music and flowing drinks that will warm guests from the inside out.

Or if that’s not quite your style, join the team from Wildbrumby Schnapps Distillery to crack open a bottle of schnapps, taste their range of liquor, play some good old fashioned games and devour a four-course-feast. They will even throw in a 100ml bottle of schnapps plus a shot glass for you to keep.

Costelloe says the event series also boasts some of the biggest names in Australian ethical and sustainable produce.

James Madden from Flinders Island Meat and Cape Grim Beef’s Michael Kay will ‘get into the guts’ of meat and the industry, in a masterclass designed for lovers of natural produce; while Grant Hilliard from Feather and Bone, Sydney-based butcher, providore and purveyor of quality ethical and sustainable meat, will share his passion for provenance in a hands-on workshop encouraging home cooks to take their skills to another level.

“Pialligo Estate’s own Gourmet Providores will take guests on a journey of smoking, grilling and curing, providing a rare glimpse into what makes our produce so sought after,” explains Costelloe.

“We want to connect Canberrans with producers in an interactive and delicious way, and fill their winter calendar with unique food-based events.”

As the first ever Winter Series comes to a close, The Butcher, The Baker and The Merrymaker will host a Family Market Day featuring market stalls and activities that will be sure to delight children big and small. These wonderful market stalls will showcase incredible local produce, tempting the whole family with Christmas delights in true Pialligo Estate style.
