Oh Happy Day dishes up the perfect night

Laura Peppas

Organic. Fresh. Instagram-worthy. With the rise of the “foodie” era, event catering has suddenly become so much more than sausage rolls or dry chicken.

Greater awareness of dietary requirements and higher demand for fresh and beautifully presented food has meant anyone organising an event is under extra pressure to deliver a menu that can please everyone.

Luckily, brides and grooms-to-be, event planners and foodies in general can look no further than Oh Happy Day, an event which promises to be a one-stop-shop for anyone interested in planning a stylish, sophisticated and on-trend gathering.

For the event’s exclusive VIP gala dinner, hosted by HerCanberra, the team at Oh Happy Day have created a fine-dining, multi-sensory experience designed to give guests a sample of the different dishes they could have at their own special event – whether it be a birthday party, wedding, intimate dinner or a celebration “just because”.

Event co-organiser Tegan McAuley says after Oh Happy Day’s daytime event wraps up, the red carpet will roll out and the National Portrait Gallery’s Gordon Darling Hall will transform into a beautifully styled, long table dinner venue with a seasonal menu focused on fresh, local produce put together by award-winning restaurant and catering organisation Trippas White Group.

“The Trippas White Group cater for a number of iconic restaurants and event venues around Australia, such as the National Portrait Gallery, and have a very strong focus on quality food and fine-dining so we can’t wait to taste our exclusive Oh Happy Day menu,” says Tegan.

For just $80 (or $69 for early birds), ticket holders can look forward to complimentary champagne and wine from Oatley Fine Wine Merchants until 10pm and canapes such as truffle scented mascarpone and five hour braised beef shin followed by a four course degustation featuring tartare of tuna, duck, braised pork shoulder with crisp pork belly and blood peach sorbet.

For those with a sweet tooth, the event will also include a dessert buffet featuring a huge range of delicious baked treats.

“Just to name a few, we will have mango cheesecakes, chocolate éclairs, lychee frangipanes and chocolate profiteroles,” says Tegan.

“We want everyone to eat, drink and be merry! Our MC Shannon Brown will be hosting the dinner and, being the stylish pro that he is, will keep the atmosphere fun and engaging. Lovely Events and Peony n Pearl will be working their magic to turn the venue into beautifully styled dinner venue. Guests can chat to vendors before and after the dinner or capture their experience at our red carpet media wall.”

While they dine, guests will be treated to a DJ set by one of Canberra’s most renowned DJs, Ashley Feraude, a fashion parade with HAUS Models and VIP goodie bags packed with inspiration and a selection of take-home treats.

“We don’t want any details to get missed, so everything that guests experience – the food, drink, styling, flowers, music, venue, fashion parade – will be touched on during the course of the dinner,” says Tegan.
