Launched today: ‘Canberra’s Biggest Garage Sale’

Posted on

Today, Canberra’s leading community foundation, Hands Across Canberra, launched a new initiative to encourage Canberrans to donate differently this spring.

Canberra’s Biggest Garage Sale invites everyone young and old to donate new and pre-loved items. They will be auctioned online with proceeds given to Canberra’s most vulnerable through the Hands Across Canberra Foundation or directly to its 150 associated local charities.

This brand new initiative is a territory-wide campaign to encourage our Canberra community to be more aware of local need. ALLBIDS, Australia’s leading online auction and disposal service, has partnered with the Foundation to facilitate the campaign.

Hands Across Canberra CEO, Peter Gordon said they are delighted to launch this new initiative: “Canberra’s Biggest Garage Sale is an easy, fun and practical way to give locally. It allows people to help their community directly whilst de- cluttering their home – it a big win-win for everyone. Proceeds from Canberra’s Biggest Garage Sale auction will directly support our local charities and their programs.

Donated items can be big or small ranging from cars, antiques, household appliances, tools, clothes, books, boats and everything in between.

“It’s so easy to give. Donors upload the items for auction and the buyers bid on them, it’s a very convenient way to be involved in something good. Visit www.giving.handsacrosscanberra.org.au, create an account, photograph the items you want to donate and post them. The auction proceeds will go to the Foundation, or you can nominate one of the 150 local charities aligned with Hands Across Canberra who will then receive the proceeds directly” Mr Gordon explained.

If you’re looking to buy something new or pre-loved this spring, start bidding with a purpose by selecting items that will support charities locally.

ALLBIDS CEO, Rob Evans said, “ALLBIDS is always looking for ways to inspire buyers and sellers to do good. We are excited to be apart of this territory-wide initiative.”

Get the whole family involved or do it yourself, donate your pre-loved items or bid on an item you love.
