Do you know an outstanding young Canberran?

HerCanberra Team

Nominations are now open for the 2018 Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Awards, recognising and celebrating young people aged 12 to 25 years in the ACT.

If you know someone who is a role model for other young Canberrans, has given their time as a volunteer or perhaps someone who has worked to champion issues affecting young people in our community, you are encouraged to nominate them for the 2018 Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Awards.

The four award categories are:

  • Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Award
  • Personal Achievement Award
  • Individual Community Service Award
  • Group Achievement Award

For almost 30 years, the Young Canberra Citizen of the Year awards have highlighted and celebrated the work of young Canberrans.

“Last year’s Young Canberra Citizen, Mustafa Ehsan was recognised for his work with young refugees and asylum seekers in the ACT. Mustafa arrived in Canberra in 2012 after fleeing Iran as an unaccompanied minor and has shared his love of soccer to help new arrivals build social connections and rebuild their lives,” said Rachel Stephen-Smith, Minister for Disability, Children and Youth. “I thank Mustafa for his commitment and hard work over 2017 as our Young Canberra Citizen. His story has been an inspiration to Canberrans young and old and I look forward to following his achievements in the years ahead.”

“The 2018 awards are run in partnership with our generous sponsors: Beyond Bank Australia, Anglicare NSW South/NSW West/ACT, University of Canberra, Australian Catholic University and QT Canberra.”

Winners will be announced at a ceremony held at QT Canberra on Friday 13 April, marking the start of ACT Youth Week 2018.

Nominations for the 2018 Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Awards close on Friday 16 March 2018. To nominate, visit: communityservices.act.gov.au/ocyfs/youth-interact#yccy
