Set yourself a (CBR100) Challenge for the New Year!

Posted on

Everyone loves a New Year’s Resolution…drink less wine, eat more greens, get more exercise. Well, we can help with the last one at least!

Over the past few months, we’ve been telling you about the CBR100 Challenge – an event that will see locals and visitors alike in walking (and now running!) up to 100kms  of  Canberra’s Centenary Trail. Well, you have up until midnight on New Year’s Eve Friday 16 January to take advantage of a special HerCanberra reader rate for all challenges and all distances. Simply register here using the CBROHCHERCAN code to receive the reduced price.

Initially, solo running options were reserved for those keen to tackle the 50km or 100km distance, but the Earlybird Events team had so many people asking about a 25km solo run that they’ve added a new category. If you’ve already registered, and want to swap from the walk to the run, fill out the enquiry form on the CBR100 Challenge website with your details and the team will fix it up for you. If you’ve always wanted to do a half marathon – or have already done one and are keen to push yourself a little bit further – this is the perfect opportunity!

Although the course will be beautiful, weaving its way around iconic sites, hidden treasures and national institutions, it will be (as the name suggests) a challenge…and there’s never been a better time to get ready. Ideally you would start training 12 weeks before the event, so with the event taking place on 21–22 March, it means getting into training just after Christmas. Critically, this means you don’t have to train in the depths of winter and you can work off those Christmas kilos!

Getting started

Getting started is as simple as visiting the CBR100 Challenge website,  where you’ll find free training and nutrition plans, developed by experts and doable for every body. Olympian and Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Nick A’Hern, Managing Director of A’Hern Fitness has designed 12 week training programs that are specifically developed for 100km, 50km and 25km walkers of all fitness levels and include different ‘phases.

Nutrition is also covered, in a 12 week program developed by Kate Freeman of The Healthy Eating Hub. It will cover everything from pre-training snack ideas, to hydrating properly, and guidance on how to construct a healthy meal.
