Top 10 finds in Canberra’s new beauty destination

Lesley Johnston

Canberra Centre’s new Beauty Precinct is a full sensory experience.

As one lady who strolled through put it, “it’s like 10 minutes in Europe” but besides its beautiful aesthetic, the precinct is home to some amazing products that you’ll be powerless to refuse (and you’d be crazy to try to resist, quite frankly!).

Looking down the polished corridor, you’ll see that the Monaro Mall Beauty Precinct has two distinct areas: the main precinct—which includes highly-anticipated stores such as 3INA, Perfect Potion and MECCA MAXIMA; and an open plan shopping experience focusing on beauty and wellness, halfway up the corridor.

Let me be your virtual tour guide and tell you what products you can’t live without.

Tony Moly Sheet Masks, $3

Seoul Flower

For those in the know, Korean skincare and makeup has been on the radar for a long time, and now with the opening of Seoul Flower in the precinct, it’s never been easier to try these amazing products.

When you first arrive at Seoul Flower, you’ll notice hand cream in the shape of a banana and a lip balm that smells like a tomato—but if you try one thing from this unique store, it should be the Tony Moly Sheet Masks.

At a very reasonable $3 per mask, they offer a variety of different skin solutions, but the main result you will notice is supple and bouncy skin. Perfect before you apply makeup or for the ultimate pampered night in.

MECCA MAX Eye Max Power Couple Mascara, $38

MECCA MAXIMA

EYE MAX Power Couple Mascara_Open

The opening of MECCA MAXIMA in the Canberra Centre is a game-changer. Finally we have access to amazing brands like Too Faced, Mario Badescu and Urban Decay. The opening saw people lining up all day just to have a look, and people are still cramming in to see the latest in beauty, skincare and fragrance.

On 1 August, Mecca launched its own range of makeup called MECCA MAX, an affordable and extremely high-quality range of cosmetics.

One of the shining stars is the Eye Max Power Couple Mascara, which offers a double-ended wand with a lengthening mascara wand on one end and a volumnising mascara wand on the other. Finally, a mascara that offers you the best of both worlds!

That Red House Organic SoapBerries, $17

Muse Beauty

Muse Beauty, located in the Beauty Garden, is a trove of home scents and body products, but one of their most intriguing products are Organic SoapBerries. These are a hypoallergenic alternative to laundry detergent.

To wash with them, put five shells into a small muslin bag and pop them into your washing machine. They last five washes before you need to replenish them and are grey water safe and even compostable!

APSU is an Australian owned brand that is dedicated to bringing you spa quality products to your home and their Funaya Green Tea Hand Ritual is the most holistic hand treatment ever.

Starting with a Green Tea and Avocado exfoliating hand mask to slough off the winter damage, you then use the Green Tea Massage Candle to massage melted oil into your hands. Follow this up with the Green Tea Hand lotion and I promise you your hands won’t even know it’s been winter.

Inglot have arrived in Canberra and every makeup lover has rejoiced!

Inglot’s worldwide popularity is due to their professional quality products and the option of the Freedom System Palette. With this flexible system, you can create a personalised palette, which can include eye shadows, blush, lipstick and perfume.

If you’re new to the brand, you need to try their Pure Pigment shadows. This multi tasking wonder can be used directly onto the eye for an everyday look or mixed with a little of the Inglot Duraline liquid to create a waterproof liquid liner.

Chakra Essentials Oils Kit, $89.95

Chakra-Oil-Kit-highres

As you walk through the Beauty Precinct you’ll be seduced by the amazing scent of Perfect Potion. This earthy and fragrant store is full of life’s problem solvers with beautiful natural baby products, organic deodorants, delicious herbal teas and even free trade olive oil.

Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask, $49

The Body Shop

The Body Shop is a store I’m falling in love with all over again. They’ve recently been sold from L’Oreal to a cruelty free company, so join me in welcoming the Body Shop back to the cruelty free world!

They have some really great anti-ageing offerings and their Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask is a great addition to any skincare regime. Used as a night cream, it’s filled with plant-based stem cells, which will slow the loss of collagen and promote the skin’s natural renewal process.

BIG Sea Salt Shampoo, $27.50

Lush

You cannot miss Lush in the Beauty Precinct, with their amazing scents and their inclusive party atmosphere.

Of course, there are all the bath bombs, soaps and body lotions you would ever want but do not discount their hair products. The BIG Sea Salt Shampoo has large rock salt crystals and foams up to cleans your scalp and hair leaving it soft, bouncy and BIG.

The Highlighter, $17.95

3INA

Not many people had heard of 3INA (pronounced Mina) before they opened in Australia but this Spanish makeup brand all about professional quality products that are fun and affordable.

If you try just one product it has to be their highlighter which, when launched in Melbourne, sold out of the world’s supply! It comes in two colours, a gold and a pink and when combined they create the perfect golden blush tone.

Total Bae Gloss It Intergalactic, $19

Napoleon Perdis

Napoleon Perdis’ new concept store is not your average makeup store and there’s never been a better time to shop for your favourite Napoleon products.

One of the new ranges, Total Bae, has some real show stoppers but the one that stands out for me is the Intergalactic Gloss. This iridescent and almost holographic lip gloss can be worn on its own or layered over any lipstick for a fun way to finish your look.
