Her Home: Get The Look

Rachel Marsh

Playful, Bold, Artistic and Tactile

Back in February, we took you inside the former home of Jane Pettersen – the owner of Braddon fashion boutique, Pink Ink. While the property has now changed hands, we haven’t stopped coveting Jane’s playful, bold and artistic sense of design.

So I want to show you how to create that aesthetic in your own home, incorporating some wallet-friendly picks, as well as a few ‘budget isn’t an issue’ options. Here’s how to get the look.HC_36089_Get_The_Look_MB_V01

1 – Technicolour #2 artwork

Jane’s home was quite bold in colour, with a big focus on art. So it seemed only fitting to base the concept around a stunning artwork. I came across this one in Jimmy Possum – it’s entitled Technicolour #2 and is an original artwork by Jessica Spalding.

The bottom line: $1500 from Jimmy Possum at Canberra Outlet Centre.

2 – Freedom Bucket Chair

In my opinion, every living room needs an eye-catching occasional chair. This Freedom Bucket Chair in Lido Teal fabric adds an injection of colour without being too overpowering.

The bottom line: $499.00 from Freedom at Canberra Outlet Centre.

3 – Metro Table Lamp

Lighting is so important when planning a concept. I couldn’t go past Freedom’s Metro table lamp. The combination of the black body with marble base is simply stunning.

The bottom line: $149.00  from Freedom at Canberra Outlet Centre.

4 – Puku Ottoman

The delightful Puku Ottoman, designed by Melbourne’s Coco Flip, adds another pop of colour, linking back into the artwork. It’s just one of the beautiful designer pieces from Designcraft.

The bottom line: $695.00 from Designcraft.

5 – Trapeze Cushion

Cushions are a great way to bring colour and texture to your sofa. The Trapeze cushion from Freedom incorporates colours from the artwork, as well as the marble effect from the lamp base.

The bottom line: $39.95 from Freedom at Canberra Outlet Centre.

6 – Santona Grey Marle cushion

In order to soften the colour palette, I have added in the textured Santona Grey Marle cushion from Adairs. The soft grey colour, combined with the knitted texture, adds a sense of warmth to the concept.

The bottom line: $59.95 from Adairs at Canberra Outlet Centre.

7 – Wild Stag Canvas

Don’t be dissuaded by the name. Early Settler Recollections has some fantastic edgy pieces that you would not expect to find in a store with a ‘colonial’ name. The Wild Stag canvas helps add some quirky detail to the concept.

The bottom line: $29.00 from Early Settler Recollections at Canberra Outlet Centre.

8 – Madison Frame

The Madison Frame, in sunshine yellow, helps to repeat the colour found in the artwork, making the room feel well balanced and grounded. The frame comes in three different sizes.

The bottom line: $19.95 to 39.95 from Freedom at Canberra Outlet Centre.

9 – Kong Armchair

If you’re looking to purchase a designer piece the Kong Armchair, designed by Philippe Starck, is definitely a must have item. These amazing dining chairs come in a brushed or polished finish (polished shown) and help add a sense of glamour to the scheme. You could use one as a cute side table, or go all out and deck out your dining room.

The bottom line: $4 440.00 each from Designcraft.
