Her Say: Issue of the Week (Fashfest edition)

In this weekly street series, we pick a hot topic of the week and ask for your thoughts…

It was a big week of fashion in the nation’s capital last week and it had us asking…

“Do you think we should have more events such as Fashfest in Canberra to support our local designers?”

“I definitely think we should do more to support local talent, there are so many people that aren’t discovered that don’t really have the chance to be noticed.” Tilda, 17, Dickson.

“I actually think Fashfest is a really good platform for local designers, it gives them a chance to reach out to the community and show them the talent and creativity, so yes I think we need more events like this because Canberra’s got super talent.” Deejay, 29, Torrens.

“I think we need more events, as long as they are advertised well. It keeps people on their toes and ensures Canberra doesn’t become too predictable.” Christine, Oxley.

“I think it’s really important to support local talent, there’s so many emerging designers and Canberra’s grown so much, so it would be great to see the events grow with that.” Janette, 28, Canberra City

We absolutely should hold more events to support local designers, Canberra has a thriving creative underbelly. It is also important for the business community to work together to build this platform by supporting one another with this outcome in mind.
