Spring Essentials

Ashleigh Went

There’s no doubting that winter fashion is magnificent, but we’ve been not-so-patiently waiting for spring.

No other time of the year holds as much promise. Just a hint of warmth has us dreaming of balmy nights sipping cocktails on a rooftop terrace, of picnics in the park and, of course, sunshiney strolls by the lakeside.

The change of season is the perfect time to spring clean your home—and your wardrobe.

If your closet needs a little springtime refresh (and let’s be honest, whose doesn’t after a long Canberra winter), here are our favourite picks from Canberra Outlet Centre.

Floral feels

Spring has sprung and the blossoms are in bloom—what better way to mark the occasion than with a chic floral wrap dress?

We envision this outfit being worn for a saunter along the Seine or a Gondola ride in Venice—but it’s just as appropriate for a stroll along the Foreshore or brunch on Lonsdale Street.

The wrap dress is a must-have, and can be dressed up or down with accessories. The straw boater hat gives a “vacay” vibe, while the shoes and cross-body bag pick up the pink in the dress’ floral print and lends a polished, girly feel.

The distressed denim jacket it such a staple piece that it bears no need for justification. The more you wear it, the better it looks.

Wrap dress – Cotton On, $39.95
Wide Brim Boater Hat, Portmans, $14.95
Denim Jacket – Cotton On, $49.95
Cross body bag – Cotton On, $16.95
Heels – Portmans, $89.95
Black glasses – Le Specs from Parliament, $20

Gorgeous gingham

This dress taps into so many trends – gingham? Check. Balloon sleeves? Check. It’s a statement piece that can be styled differently for so many occasions, from a weekend barbeque to evening drinks with the girls.

This Ally dress is obviously perfect for a spring day, but a pair of blacky strappy heels elevate it to an evening look. We are obsessed with the pink hue of this coat—and the fabric is heavy enough to keep you warm on cool and breezy spring nights.

A velvet choker and geometric earrings add bling with an edge.

Gingham Ruched Sleeve Dress, Ally Fashion, $49.99
Pink coat – Cue, $314.60
Link and Jewel Velvet Choker, Cue $54.50
Geo Ring Earrings, Portmans, $14.95
Claude heels, Windsor Smith, $58

Fresh as a daisy

It’s the perfect spring weekend outfit—a crisp white shirt, a touch of florals, pastel tones and retro sunglasses.

We love that this look is feminine without being fussy—the raw hem of the denim skirt gives it a little grit, and add a laidback appeal. The addition of the light scarf and suedette jacket add just enough warmth but can be removed when the sun comes out to play, without compromising the overall look.

The bralette is a great purchase to wear with so many looks. Just a hint of lace or a pretty strap peeking out from underneath the shirt creates a flirty, charming feel.

Floral Embroidered Shirt, Ally Fashion, $15.99
Denim skirt, Ally Fashion, $35.99
Bralette – Cotton On Body, $10
Suedette Pink Biker Jacket, Ally Fashion, $49.99
Pink glasses – Le Specs from Parliament, $20
Cherry Blossom Scarf – Portmans, $29.95
Honk Sneakers – Windsor Smith, $40
