The Perfect Dinner Party Meets Flower Power

Olivia Afiabo

Walking through impeccably-styled homeware stores or clicking through the seemingly endless styling and food blogs across the web can be an escape.

An escape into a paradise of perfectly arranged, manicured and primped living. And—as more than mere fantasy—these outlets can prove the perfect inspiration.

However, even the best inspiration can be in vain if you haven’t got the tools to carry out your vision, and while scrolling through those blogs can almost be a form of meditation—with all the bright lights, floral arrangements, and fruit bowls lulling the senses—what could be better than coming home to your own primped-out pad?

But it can be overwhelming figuring out where to start, especially if you’re newbie to the decorating scene. That’s why Canberra Outlet Centre is hosting a DIY Home Styling Weekend designed to give your home styling and event planning an edge.

The weekend will consist of two workshops, Party Pretty hosted by Anisa Sabet from The Macadames, and Floral Flair hosted by local flower bar, The Floral Society, on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 March respectively.

If you’re not familiar with Anisa Sabet and her food and travel blog, The Macadames, it’s a delectable fusion of recipes, restaurant reviews, travel inspiration, as well as morsel after morsel of personal anecdotes and so-good-you-could-eat-them food snaps.

Canberra Outlet Centre’s, Party Pretty is your chance to learn an array of styling tips from Anisa, including how to get the perfect place setting, easy ways to master table decoration, plenty of food presentation tricks, and the best and easiest ways to dress your home for an event.

The workshop will kick-off on Saturday 4 March from 11am-12.30pm, offering an hour and a half of valuable styling advice for all skill levels, but will cater especially for beginners to help you turn your inspiration into something fun and achievable.

When asked what attendees can look forward to from her Party Pretty workshop, Anisa said that they, “can expect to be taught a short comprehensive workshop on table styling, event styling and fun and cheap ways to style on a budget, while still providing the WOW factor.”

“I am hoping people will walk away inspired, equipped with new ideas for DIY projects at home and the confidence that styling doesn’t have to be a complicated or daunting process.”

For a little tip to get you prepared for the workshop (and so you can begin practising now) Anisa says, “to me, styling tables is all about creating an inviting mood for your guests. Whether it be a relaxed lunch or a fancy dinner, it’s about little details that help to set a mood, complement the food and create a lovely dining experience.”

Once you’ve come away from Party Pretty with enough new styling tips to pull off the perfect dinner party, you can get ready for Floral Flair.

Spend your Sunday, from 11am-12.30pm ensconced by the luxurious aroma of fresh flowers with the artists from The Floral Society. And, if you’re able to avoid drifting into a celestial state of zen, you’ll enjoy a workshop tailored to improving the way you arrange your floral decorations.

The Floral Society, in case you haven’t heard, is Canberra’s digital floral destination. From creating unique floral designs for events, to daily arrangements using fresh, seasonal blooms. Floral Flair at the Canberra Outlet Centre is the best way to enhance your own personal flower power. You’ll leave the workshop with floral styling tips on how to style table runners, faux arrangements, and all of the best ways to add a pop of life and colour to your home.

With the jam-packed styling education you’ll receive at the DIY Home Styling Weekend, you’re sure to learn useful tips to turn your own place into an aromatic hotspot of beautifully styled food and flowers, fit for hosting the most memorable dinner parties. Or perhaps you’d prefer a sumptuous haven to enjoy in peace. Whatever floats your styling boat you’ll soon be able to transform your inspiration into reality.

If you’re interested in Canberra Outlet Centre’s DIY Home Styling Weekend, places are limited so make sure to email [email protected] and note which workshop you’d like to attend. Attendees will also receive a gift bag and Centre gift card.
