Summer beauty essentials

Maéva Navas

To be honest, I’m not a big fan of the heavy makeup trend.

I believe in natural beauty and I really do think that EVERY person is so much more beautiful without 1000 different layers on their faces.

That’s why I won’t be talking about heavy make-up today, just about the summer beauty essentials. It’s not because I don’t like wearing make-up. On the contrary, I could literally open a shop with all my products…but in summer, what more do you need than some terrific skincare and a pop of colour?

SUMMER EVERYDAY ROUTINE

sun-protection

Because I grew up around mountains, snow, cold and ski instructors (lucky me), I had to adapt to the Australian weather, especially the Australian sun. Obviously, everyone already knows that sun protection is a must have…

  1. In A Good Light SPF30+ Tinted Moisturiser MECCA COSMETICA $40
  2. To Save Face Superscreen SPF 50+MECCA COSMETICA $40
  3. Super City Block SPF 30+ CLINIQUE $40
  4. To Save Body SPF 50 200ml MECCA COSMETICA $38

After Sun

after-sun

We can’t talk about sun protection without talking about after sun care! In summer you have to hydrate your skin as much as possible and moisturise it once or twice a day in summer. To be honest (again) I am a lazy girl, so I only moisturise after showering, but if I spend time in the sun I try to moisturise at least twice a day. It’s also good for prolonging your tan – real or otherwise.

  1. Cooling After-Sun Face & Body Yoghurt KORRES $37
  2. Soleil After-Sun LANCOME $69
  3. Moroccan Rose Gold Glow Perfect Dry Oil REN $49
  4. Coconut Body Balm FRANK BODY $24.95
  5. Santorini Body Milk KORRES $20

Baby powder

I’m not even joking. I found this trick a few years ago – after moisturising my face I use baby powder. It absorbs sebum from my face and keeps it matte and really soft all day. Now I don’t need to worry about oily skin during hot days anymore. YAY!

Coconut oil

It’s just the best thing on earth and I use it pretty much all the time. Because I wear waterproof mascara sometimes, coconut oil is the best at removing waterproof make-up, naturally. It also smells so good and hydrates my hair so well, so once a week after I wash my hair I put some coconut oil in it, leave it for 30/40 minutes (just enough time for an episode of The Walking Dead or How To Get Away With Murder…or Game Of Thrones), rinse it and done! Easy.

Lip care

lip-balm

Every time I brush my teeth I also brush my lips… I know, it’s a little bit weird, but it helps to remove dead skin and keeps them really soft!

Afterwards, I use a Vaseline lip balm with an SPF30+ because your lips need sun protection too. It’s a sensitive part of your body, and no one wants to have dry lips.

  1. Vaseline Lip Balm SPF30 VASELINE $2.99
  2. Lip Wax MARIO BADESCU $6
  3. French Kiss Balm APOT.CARE $31
  4. Lip Screen SPF15 CHANTECAILLE $55

SUMMER NIGHTS

Red lips and rosy cheeks, a bit of mascara, dark eyeliner, brows tinted and that’s it (I’m lying – I also use concealer to hide my eye bags…).

  1. Ka-BROW! Eyebrow Cream-Gel Color BENEFIT COSMETICS $42
  2. Rockateur Blush BENEFIT COSMETICS $51
  3. Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner STILA $31
  4. BareSkin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer BAREMINERALS $30
  5. Cannonball Ultra Waterproof Mascara URBAN DECAY $33
  6. Sarah Moon Collection Moon Matte Lipstick NARS $40

And what about a crazy colour for your lips? I’m usually wearing red, but I really think trying something like purple, blue or even gold could be perfect for summer.
