Fashion Meets Art at Trove

HerCanberra Team

There’s nothing more delightful than a treasure trove, especially one packed with the creative work of local designers, artists and makers.

That’s the idea behind Trove in the city, which stocks items made from the heart here in Australia. This Friday, Trove will pop the cork on its first free ‘Fashion Meets Art’ event.

The doors swing open at 7pm and until 10pm you can shop till you drop, while enjoying nibbles and a glass of wine, and listening to live music. You’ll also see a live demonstration by Jennifer Baird of The Fifth Season Artworks, be able to check out the word of artist Fiona Hill and have a chance to chat in a chilled-out setting to designers and makers about what they do best.

Trove will also host a roaming fashion show with five of the capital’s finest fashion designers, including several who showcased new collections at FASHFEST. So you get to have a close look at their latest designs.

Two resident designers at Trove, Dissonance and Sovata, will participate in the roaming parade. One of Sovata’s pretty silvery grey designs, with its mint green and fuschia pink accents, was worn by Stephanie Kwong who has just won Fashions on the Field at Thoroughbred Park.

Stephanie also wore a brooch on the dress designed and made by another Trove designer, Jess from JAC Studios. Jess collaborated with Sovata’s Jade Sargent on the jewelry and will have the line up soon available at Trove and through markets.

Three local guest fashion designers will also be at Trove—Karen Lee, Zilpah tart and Pure Pod.

Trove is a not-for-profit cooperative that continues to grow the number of makers it stocks. Today, it sells the work of around 22, across many creative disciplines, including art, fashion (for big people and little people), jewelry, accessories, homewares, cards and more.

Thanks so much for the publicity of our event. We are all very excited about it at Trove. And I am super excited to paint for everyone (and a bit nervous too). Jennifer xx
