Weekend Brunch Outfit (Plus Size Fashion)

On the weekend brunch is a great way to catch up with friends for a coffee and a light meal. It’s a fun way to grab a bite when you want to try a new café or don’t have much time on your hands. However, when it’s in between common meals it’s hard to know what a curvy girl should wear because you don’t want to be over or under dressed.

So when you have a brunch date with friends, you shouldn’t have to worry about making the decision of what you’re going to wear as what your going to eat is definitely a more important decision to be made. Especially when heading to somewhere hipster like Lonsdale St or one of the many new cafes opening up in the burbs, you want to look and dress effortlessly cool.

For a modern brunch look, the striped Breton shirt is the perfect way to look chic. However when you’re a curvy girl the first thing you’re told is to never wear horizontal stripes. Horizontal stripes can make you look larger than you are, but if you get the right stripe i.e. a thin black stripe with a larger white stipe, then the striped pattern balances out and doesn’t accentuate your curves. I love wearing a striped shirt. It has an effortless chic feel about it (think french) and is a great option for brunch.

The perfect piece to pair with a Breton shirt is some wet look skinny jeans. Of course the cut of the shirt then dictates the cut of the pants. I prefer to have slightly looser shirts with tighter pants to balance out the body. I don’t mean muffin top tight, I just mean slightly snug in a comfortable way. The wet look jeans are a great piece to dress up any outfit to create a cool smart casual look, which is perfect for a brunch date.

Depending on the weather and if you are planning on sitting inside or outside, try adding an optional black cardigan or fitted blazer to keep you protected from the wind whilst adding to your effortless look.

Style the outfit with on-trend jewellry by layering delicate pieces together. One of these necklaces was a gift from the boyfriend, the other from my father, both mean a lot to me and I love wearing them together. It adds a personal touch to the outfit whilst being on trend at the same time.

Last but not least add a dash of sparkle to the outfit with these fabulous glittery boots. These are the type of pieces that add your own personal style to an outfit. I first spotted them on a US blog about two years ago and became OBSESSED. When I stumbled upon them in Wittner, no matter what the price tag was (something over $150) I knew they had to be mine. They’ve been my go-to pair now for 2 years and they show no signs of ageing. I’m going to die wearing these boots.

Buying pieces that are made with quality is essential for getting the most out of your buck. Staying away from fast fashion garments and investing into pieces that are made to last will end up saving you money in the long run.

There you have it an outfit that is head to toe chic, seasonal and completely effortless for the curvy girl. A killer brunch outfit those hipsters would be jealous of.
