Winter Footwear Finds

Ashleigh Went

No Canberra girl can be expected to brave our winters without an artillery of chic boots.

Unfortunately, compared to summer, winter footwear usually comes with a higher price tag. You could either max out your credit card stocking up on the latest footwear trends… or, you could hotfoot it to Canberra Outlet Centre, where you can find a massive range of retailers including Sandler, RM Williams, Diana Ferrari, Windsor Smith and FSW stocking the latest styles for affordable prices.

We did some of the footwork for you, and foraged some of Canberra Outlet Centre’s best winter footwear finds:clip_03_small

The Combat Boot

Hardwearing. Warm. Practical. Edgy. These Sandler boots ($179.95) tick all the boxes and look exceptionally perfect with two of this season’s biggest trends: distressed denim and a bomber jacket.

The Navy Boot

When Canberra winter hits, it can be tempting to wear all black – and not just to mourn the passing of warm summer nights sipping rose (oh, the memories). Most winter wardrobe staples come in classic black, and boots are no exception.

Inject some colour into your look with a pair of statement boots.  These boots from Sandler ($259.95) in a moody navy add colour without being OTT vibrant. Sandler actually stock a range of navy boots, but this pair was our favourite. The idea that black and navy can’t be worn together is outdated – it’s a look favoured by the French, so pair them with a pair of black jeans, and channel your inner Parisian.

The Classic Boot

Given that RM Williams are an iconic Australian fashion label, the Adelaide is a boot that should be in every Australian girl’s wardrobe. They usually retail for upwards of $500, but you can get end of season stock for around $350, with a range of colours available. This is probably the style that’s going to give you the most longevity, with a very low cost-per-wear.

The Western Boot

This is looking to be a big trend, with designers like Yves Saint Laurent jumping on the western boot bandwagon.

Get the look without the ($1000+) price tag with the camel coloured kicks($119) from Diana Ferrari. This style of boot is an excellent investment as it’s one of the few pairs of boots that you can get away with wearing well into spring and summer with a dress.

Stay away from other western-style pieces to avoid looking like a cowgirl. When in doubt, pair with something tailored and chic – think more Kate Moss, less Annie Get Your Gun.

The Cut Out Boot

These might not be the warmest of the bunch, but they might just be the hottest: the Tiaria is another on-trend style delivered by Windsor Smith for $159.95. We love the combination of the chunky heel, cutouts, and laces. You’ll get as much wear out of them with a skirt or dress in summer as you will with jeans or trousers this winter.

The Fringed Boot

Ever since I saw a snap of Kate Moss walking through an airport in a pair of fringed boots circa 2015, I have wanted a pair. We predicted the Western trend will be big, and naturally, fringing follows. Because they bring so much texture and volume to a look, they’re best to wear with something sleek – like tapered trousers or a skirt with opaque stockings. This style comes courtesy of Diana Ferrari – they’re super high quality and are available at Canberra Outlet Centre for just $79.

The Velvet Boot

Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid have both been spotted in this style. Given their status as perhaps the biggest modern style icons, I’d wager that this is a trend that we’re going to be seeing a lot more of. In fact, you can get just about everything in velvet at the moment – from chokers to coats, to bikinis and even underwear (yes, really). Windsor Smith are known for being on-trend, so it comes as little surprise that they stock the stunning Vera boot. Even better? They’re currently on sale for $98. Get it, girl.

The Sport Luxe Boot

FSW Shoes are a great place to look for a pair of statement shoes, as they stock such a massive range of brands. The Juney ($89.99) by Verali immediately caught our eye. With their mesh and laces, they’re like the boot equivalent of a pair of sneakers – only with stiletto heels. Pair with black skinny jeans for a more polished look, or a pair of sweat pants for a comfortable yet luxe vibe.
