Tania Maras’ Secret Garden

Beatrice Smith

Tania Maras has been creating gorgeous bridal accessories right here in Canberra for the best part of 10 years.

Her signature style blends intricate detail and luxury materials, creating timeless pieces that will quickly become heirlooms. Her latest collection, Secret Garden, was inspired by the glamour of the Palace of Versailles.

We chatted to Tania about finding inspiration here in Canberra, her favourite materials to work with and her favourite items from the new collection.

What inspired you to create this collection?

This collection was inspired by the opulent, decadent yet delicate gardens and architecture of the Palace of Versailles. The Versailles exhibition here in Canberra at the NGA had a profound impact on me and I couldn’t get it out of my mind.

What materials did you choose to use?

We wanted to do something a little different and focus on an antique silver colour palette, with hints of blush and empire blue, as well as silver crystal and ivory pearl details.

I love the intensity and mood of antique silver tones, and it allowed me to draw out the old-world charm I was so inspired by. We design for modern romantics so it was a fun challenge to combine elements of the old in a clean and fresh aesthetic that still feels elegant and timeless.

Versailles was all about details – intricate yet refined – and I wanted to apply this to the traditional wedding veil in a way that felt updated, refined and beautiful. Our new veils suit wedding dresses of all styles and they’re finished with countless pearls and crystals that were all individually applied. A labour of love.

What does this collection signify for Tania Maras?

The Secret Garden collection is an extension of who we are. Our signature botanicals are everywhere but I just love the addition of the soft rose and empire blue tints. In some pieces, these details are in full bloom, while in others it’s more in budding form.

We’ve always been about customisation and so true to our brand, this new collection is fully customisable for our brides to suit her wedding dress, hair and personality.

What are your favourite pieces?

Oh you ask a hard question! But if I must answer, I would say our GABRIEL floral crown, the ETOILE crystal veil, the ARTEMIS side comb and our TEAROSE hairpin. I feel these pieces add that element of magic and truly represents everything I loved about the splendour and nostalgia of Versailles.
