The Groom’s Trail

Drew Baker

A beach wedding in Fiji awaits, with our orders to dress our groom Tim in a casual but classy outfit – one that will look the goods on the big day but we wearable when back home.

1PM – FUEL UP AT GREASE MONKEY

GREASEMONKEY

There’s no way a groom can commence a shopping trail (a what?) without a sneaky burger to get things underway. Grease Monkey was our pick, it’s a favourite and close to the first stop of the trail.

No beers this early – they are being saved for the end!

1.30PM – TRIM AND SHAVE AT GROOMED

This Braddon barbershop has a great vibe, and gives the groom a special experience to ensure he’s looking like a top shelf option on the big day. The team at Groomed are great and made us feel at home while Tim had the full treatment including the Hot Towel “cut throat” Shave.

There are more options than we can list; they even offer a package for the male part of the whole wedding party!

2.30PM – THE BESPOKE OPTION AT BRADDON TAILORS

If you’ve never had a custom made suit, then you haven’t lived. (Well actually that’s stretching things a bit – but they are pretty good!) We spent some time discussing options, but settled for a few accessories as the imminent departure to Fiji precluded the bespoke works!

3PM – HUGO BOSS AWAITS

A favourite destination for top quality menswear, Hugo Boss was our choice for the shirt and cufflinks. The range is broad and moves from corporate through to casual, although on this occasion we went for a slim-fit crisp white shirt with ivory cuffs.

4PM – ITALIAN LEATHER SHOES, BRING ON AQUILA!

You can’t go past Italian leather shoes – there’s something about the quality and craftsmanship that lifts them to the next level. We go for Aquila’s ‘Ronsen’ in tan leather with a matching belt, offset against the textured white shirt, making for a winning (but casual) combination.

4.30PM – FINDING THE RIGHT ACCESSORIES AT MAZZUCCHELLI’S

There are limits on accessories for men, especially if you want to wear something after the wedding, so we dropped into Mazzucchelli’s in Civic for a look at some watches. Their Tag Heuer Aquaracer Calibre 16 ticked all of the boxes and is one nice bit of kit…

Four hours later and it was pretty clear we deserved a beer. It was a long trail for this trusty crew, so we found ourselves at BentSpoke with a pint of Barley Griffin or two. All the best to the groom for the big day- go get
