Circus Under My Bed

Australia’s National Youth Circus, based in Albury-Wodonga, will be taking their acclaimed circus show for young people on tour again in 2015, including the first major international engagement for the regional company in ten years.

Circus Under My Bed will draw audiences into the imagination of a young girl spending a final night in her bedroom before moving away. What follows is an enthralling mix of old-world circus, vaudeville and classic story-telling for young people and families.

As the lights go out she dreams up a circus world of whimsical characters who help her face her fears and turn packing-up into an adventure you won’t want to end. If you have ever dreamed of running away to a circus, this is the show your dreams are made of, unlike anything else you will see on the Australian stage.

The young performers of the ‘Fruities’ are aged from just 9 to 19 and their daring feats and skillful trickery will enchant and inspire young and old alike, from aged 4 to 104.

Circus Under My Bed was nominated as Best Visual or Physical Theatre Production at the 2014 Helpmann Awards and Best Production for Children at the Sydney Theatre Awards.

Albury-Wodonga will be first to see the show in June at the Entertainment Centre, before seasons at Sydney Opera House and Canberra Theatre Centre. The production then travels overseas to be part of the ‘Australia in Turkey’ Festival in Istanbul, an extraordinary opportunity for 17 young regional artists. As well as six performances at the spectacular new Zorlu Centre, the company will participate in cultural exchange programs and community workshops with schools and young people in Istanbul.

‘Circus Under My Bed’ by Flying Fruit Fly Circus is at Canberra Theatre Centre 16-18 July.
