Capital Jazz Project 2015

Canberra’s winter celebration of jazz has returned for 2015 with a thrilling program featuring outstanding Australian and international artists in Canberra engulfing the capital with sound.

Imagined with the soul aim of nourishing top quality jazz music artists and audiences in a joyful manner Capital Jazz Project features a diverse range of international, national and ACT-based artists.  Over ten days enjoy the riches to be found in The Street’s broad and exciting program of original improvised and scored work, adventurous arrangements, standards re-examined, and seriously inventive and innovative projects and artists exploring jazz now.

The 2015 line-up includes big-hitters such as peerless virtuoso piano-bandolim duo Stefano & Hamilton (Italy/Brazil), jazz-rock icons The Bad Plus (USA), Grammy-award winning saxophonist Joe Lovano with Paul Grabowsky, Phil Rex, and Dave Beck (USA/AUS), the sublime vocals of Katie Noonan and Elixir (AUS), the effervescent drumming of Eric Harland (USA), hard bop combo HAMMERHEAD (AUS), and mixing native, Spanish and African influences Colombian Jazz icons the Ospina Brothers Trio (COLOMBIA).

For little kids the award-winning be-bop beats and jumpin’ jazz jive grooves of Jazzamataz, and for young and old alike the screening of silent animation masterpiece The Adventures of Prince Achmed accompanied by New York underground music scene celeb Philip Johnston’s  boundary-crossing music.

Produced by The Street Theatre, a proven and nationally respected music and artistic hub, Capital Jazz Project represents a long standing commitment to developing a national forum around jazz in Australia’s capital city through bringing top quality jazz artists together in Canberra, profiling Canberra’s jazz diaspora, and revealing our city in its Alpine glory.
