Flickerfest 2018 – Best of Australian Shorts

Celebrating 27 years in 2018 Flickerfest remains Australia’s leading Academy® Accredited and BAFTA recognised short film festival, ensuring that we continue to present A-list short film programmes recognised amongst the best in the world.

Flickerfest is excited to be bringing the National Tour to Canberra on Thursday 5th April at the Palace Electric Cinemas, showcasing the Best of Australian Shorts programme! The Flickerfest programmes present a selection of entertaining, inspiring and award-winning films hand-picked from the festival’s 2,500 entries, giving local Flickerfest audiences the first look at the hottest shorts in the world today.

Highlights from the Best of Australian Shorts include the beautifully crafted and creative Australian animation After All which was awarded both Best Australian animation and Best Screenplay at the Flickerfest awards ceremony in Bondi in January; the dramatic and inspiring Miro, an Aboriginal Western short film staring Mark Coles Smith; and the delightfully quirky and creatively animated Martha The Monster, starring the voices of actress Rose Byrne and her husband Bobby Cannavale. We are pleased to also include the incredible short film Second Best from AACTA award-winning director, writer, producer and actor Alyssa McClelland. Second Best, a dark comedy about the power of identical twin sisters and the unbreakable bond that binds them, was filmed on location at Dickson College and in Kaleen and Fyshwick and included many local Canberra extras! The film saw Alyssa take home the award for Best Direction in an Australian Short Film during the Flickerfest Awards ceremony in Bondi in January! There will be a catered after party following the screening where guests can liaise with the filmmakers and the Canberra locals who played a part in bringing Second Best to life!

Don’t miss out on Flickerfest 2018 when it arrives at the Palace Electric Cinemas, Canberra!

Happening Thursday 5 April from 7 pm at Palace Electric Cinemas, Philip Law Street, NewActon.

Cost: $20/18 (includes after party). See the website for more information.
