Icon Water Gala

Two of Australia’s most accomplished operatic stars, James Egglestone and Olivia Cranwell, join the Canberra Symphony Orchestra to perform a program of opera’s most enduring selections in the newly named Icon Water Gala, conducted by Nicholas Milton on 4 July at Llewellyn Hall.

Supported by Icon Water, formally ACTEW Corporation, the Icon Water Gala has sold-out every performance for the past seven years, and this concert themed Puccini is expected to do the same.

CSO Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Dr Nicholas Milton attributes the popularity of the concert to a number of factors; Canberrans’ love of opera, and the world-class soloists that come to Canberra for the event.

“Each year audiences know to expect a real treat from the Gala, and this year is no different as we’re joined by two miraculous performers, tenor James Egglestone and soprano Olivia Cranwell,” he says.

“Both performers have done exceptional work both nationally and internationally, and I’m certain audiences will be enamoured.”

The program delves into Puccini’s greatest works including selections from La Bohéme, Tosca, and Madama Butterfly. Two-time Helpmann Award winner tenor James Egglestone says that it’s a program of the best duets and arias Puccini has to offer, and some of the greatest in the repertoire.

“I’m thrilled to be singing such emotive music filled with passion and power…There is a lot in this program to enjoy, and I’m sure it will be a fabulous night,” he says.
