Katie Noonan and the Brodsky Quartet: With Love and Fury

Making her first appearance at the Canberra International Music Festival is one of Australia’s most versatile and loved singers, Katie Noonan. The Brodsky Quartet need no introduction; after re-inventing the meaning of the modern string quartet through collaborations with artists such as Elvis Costello and Björk, they have teamed up with Katie Noonan to re-interpret the works of esteemed Australian author Judith Wright.

Inspired by the poetry of Judith Wright, the quartet and Katie will launch a national tour of their new album With Love and Fury, which is currently being recorded. The concert premieres the live performance of the new program as well as performing a selection of other pieces by artists such as Björk, Sting and Katie herself. The performance will also have a distinctly Australian feel, featuring music specially commissioned by Australian composers including Carl Vine, David Hirschfelder, Andrew Ford, Elena Kats Chernin, Paul Grabowsky, Paul Dean and John Rodgers.

Katie Noonan and the Brodsky Quartet will perform for Canberra audiences for one night only at the opening weekend of the Canberra International Music Festival as part of their national tour. Bringing these two creative powerhouses to the Festival was an opportunity that Artistic Director, Roland Peelman was not going to miss:

“Having worked closely with Katie, I know that smooth silken voice of hers, and I know that Katie and the Brodsky’s will fit like a glove!”

The Canberra International Music Festival kicks off on Thursday 28 April, and for eleven exhilarating days musicians from around the world will gather in Canberra to make music and create a feast for the eyes and ears. This year’s program features Monteverdi, Bach, Mozart, Boccherini, Vivaldi, Scarlatti, Ravel, Granados and much more including flamenco, medieval music and work by Gerard Brophy, the Festival’s 2016 Composer-in-Residence.

The Festival also bursts with rhythms from Latin America from tango and samba to Mexican percussion.

Tickets for Brodsky Quartet and Katie Noonan With Love and Fury at the Fitters’ Workshop will go on sale 8.00pm Thursday 11 February 2016. Tickets and more information are available online at www.cimf.org.au.
