Music @ Midday for Karinya House

The Canberra Theatre Centre has a great tradition, in combination with the Royal Military College Band, of providing the Music @ Midday Concert Series.

We are proud to announce that Karinya House for Mothers & Babies is the featured charity at the Canberra Theatre Centre’s Music @ Midday Concert to be held on 1 December 2015. This day, coincidentally is also #GivingTuesday!!

What a way to celebrate the start of the season of giving, and for just a gold coin donation you can enjoy The Royal Military College Band playing their take on modern hits as well as some old favourites.

At the same time, you will be helping to raise funds for Karinya House for Mothers and Babies, and you will be supporting some of the most vulnerable women in our community and their babies.

Karinya House Home for Mothers & Babies Inc. is a community based, not-for-profit organisation providing supported accommodation, transitional housing, outreach services and support groups to pregnant and parenting women and their families who are in crisis. Our service, which operates on a twenty-four hour, seven days a week basis, is located in the ACT and provides professional and specialised support to women throughout Canberra and the surrounding regional areas. Since our establishment in late 1997, we have provided residential and outreach support to over 5,000 pregnant and parenting women.

This is a momentous year for Karinya House, with the construction of a new purpose built facility now underway by ACT Housing.

This facility is due for completion in June 2016, and will see us move from our current premises to the leasing of this new facility. Our services will be expanded and greatly enhanced by this new space.

The transition will require some significant financial investment by Karinya House, both in terms of the relocation and establishment of new infrastructure, as well as the increased annual operating costs of an expanded service. We are excited by this new stage in our journey.

Our funding framework, which we value highly, is to be funded 50% through donation, largely from the Canberra and Regional Community, with the balance of annual funding in partnership with the ACT Government. We rely on the generous and recurring annual support of many individuals and families from the Canberra and Regional community as well as local corporate and philanthropic organisations and businesses. This financial and in kind support is vital to our sustainability.

Fund raising events such as the Music @ Midday Concert Series, so wonderfully brought to us by the Canberra Theatre Centre and the Royal Military College Band, are an equally vital component of our fund raising platform and we thank all involved for such a wonderful community based program.

We do hope to see the Canberra Theatre filled to capacity on Tuesday 1 December 2015, #GivingTuesday, for both concerts. The concerts are at 11.00am and 12.30pm. This will be a great celebration of both the Spirit of Giving on #GivingTuesday, as well as the Spirit of Karinya House and the wonderful generosity of the community in which we live.

We look forward to seeing you there and we thank you for your continued support.
