Retro Depot at the Old Bus Depot Markets

Lovers of all things retro get ready. The Old Bus Depot Markets are bringing back their popular Retro Depot event on Sunday 15 March.

“Our market-goers can channel their inner hipster at Retro Depot in March which celebrates all things retro – think retro fashion, homewares, furniture, jewellery, accessories and more,” said Diane Hinds, Director of the Old Bus Depot Markets.

“Visitors can admire and buy everything from mid-century furniture and homewares, to some of the most gorgeous, and wearable, retro fashions you’ll find,” Diane continued.

Retro Depot in March will this year feature Danielle Spiller of Out of the Ark, who’ll have a great range of lamps, china, retro clothing and mid-century furniture. Canberra based, Danielle started her business 18 years ago by collecting things herself. She then realised there were many other people like her wanting to collect things that tell a story and so her business began. She now sells a lot more vintage clothing and accessories including hats, handbags, gloves and shoes from the 1940s to the 1980s. And she loves Retro Depot at the markets.

“There’s a real buzz of excitement at Retro Depot as people are quite keen to find that something special. It’s such a bright colourful day with all of the yellows, oranges and greens of the furniture and clothing of the past.

“The quality of items that many of the stallholders bring to Retro Depot is also really high,” said Danielle Spiller of Out of the Ark.

Indeed the quality is high. Retro Depot in March will feature many other retro themed stallholders such as old favourite Irina McKillop of Ritzy Bits, who is on board again with her collection including quality mid-century furniture such as a 1960s Parker teak couch, Australian Tessa T4 suite (the flagship of the Tessa range) and a modernist British made G-Plan coffee table. Collectables will feature iconic lighting from the period, Scandinavian glass and silver jewellery, retro fabrics and post war home décor.

Belinda from Abbey Road Vintage will also be there with a fab mix of vintage clothing including dresses, blouses, bags and shoes, plus some eclectic pieces and genuine vintage jewellery.

And it’s not just the locals who relish the retro. New this year, Sunny Wilder will travel from her studio in Pambula on the South Coast with her Wildercoyle Furniture range. It’s contemporary bespoke furniture in the mid-century Scandinavian style, wholly handcrafted from Australian hardwood. Wildercoyle will have small round occasional tables and hat stands available at Retro Depot, and their full folio or work with designs for bedroom settings, dining tables, entertainment units, couches, and custom inbuilt furniture will be available.

“It’s all about bringing back things from times gone by. It’s amazing how looking at certain retro items can spark vivid fond memories, and it’s also amazing to see how great these things can look in the homes of today,” Diane concluded.
