Dog parties and wine bars: Haig Park activations return for spring

Free dog agility courses, concerts and kids parties in the heart of the city…

It sounds too good to be true, but those who experienced 2019’s Haig Park Experiments will know different.

A calendar of free events presented by the City Renewal Authority that brought new life to Braddon’s Haig Park, the Experiments, well, experimented with ways to activate this under-used space.

And now, the results are in and the most successful of those experiments are back for the warmer months—along with a host of fresh, COVID-safe events, activities and installations, presented in partnership with the University of Canberra’s Faculty of Arts & Design.

Children playing with bubbles at the Kids Outdoor Play Day in Haig Park earlier in the year.

You don’t have to wait for an event to check it out. Semi-permanent installations include colourful Floriade: Reimagined flowerboxes, dog agility equipment and new outdoor furniture. But if you are getting out your diary, here’s what to put in it.

The Pop Inn and Live Music

Canberra’s favourite travelling wine bar is back to serve up a glass of something cold—and some live music on the side.

Saturday 19 September, 1 pm – 6 pm | End of Lonsdale Street | For more information click here

Flight of the Fancies Installation

A trail of colourful discovery will pop up across Haig Park, created by Wellspring Arts & Design.

Fairy Garden Workshop

Recommended for ages 4-10, this workshop will supply loose parts, natural items and special treasures to those who believe in fairies so they can create a special garden. Perfectly timed for the school holidays!

There will even be a real-life fairy from Madeleine Tranter Creative and you’ll even get to write a letter to the fairies.

We need you to bring your imagination, creativity and playfulness to help us build fairy homes and gardens around the trees.

Remember to bring water, snacks, and something to sit on—and feel free to dress up as a fairy too!

Tuesday 29 September, 10 am – 1 pm | Next to nature play area in Turner | For more information click here.
