CBR 100: at the ‘Heart’ of it

Posted on

One year ago, 666 ABC’s Louise Maher suffered a major health scare. Diagnosed with heart disease, she had three stents put in her heart…but that wasn’t the end of the story. After being told that there were things she could do to reduce her risk of a future heart attack (that didn’t involve taking a lot of medication), she embarked on a healthier lifestyle, including regular exercise.

So when the opportunity arose to participate in the CBR100 Challenge, Louise set herself  the goal of walking 25km – not only to increase her fitness, but to raise awareness and money for the Heart Foundation. Hear more of her story in this video.

Did you know that heart disease is the single biggest killer of Canberra men and women? The Heart Foundation (ACT) is the official charity partner for the CBR 100 Challenge Event and all money separately donated during registration or fundraised through everyday hero will feed into local Canberra programs and initiatives currently run by the Heart Foundation (ACT). This means money raised locally will stay here and help to save lives in Canberra.

Chief Executive Officer of the Heart Foundation (ACT), Tony Stubbs, tells why the CBR 100 Challenge is such a great fit for the charity here.

It’s not too late to register for the Challenge, which is just one week away – kicking off on Saturday 21 March. The event offers 25km, 50km and 100km trails for both walkers and runners – you can find out more about the CBR100 Challenge here. Follow the links for more:
