Canberra artists invited to shine

Canberra is aiming to break the Guinness World record with a spectacular lighting display consisting of more than one million Christmas lights in the heart of our city.

Taking the baton from the Richards Family in Forrest, who have broken the world record for Christmas lights several times overs, SIDS and KIDS ACT in conjunction with Canberra CBD Ltd will host Christmas Lights in the City, attracting local, national and international recognition.

And local artists, designers, illustrators and photographers are invited to further showcase Canberra’s creative talents by exhibiting works of art created along the theme of “Luminosity” as Canberra shines it’s light on the world.

Canberra Photographer, Stuart Miller has donated several of his award-winning images including this untitled one.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for our amazing local talent as this event will attract unprecedented exposure,” said Jamie Wilson Director of Coordinate, the agency responsible for marketing this exciting display. “Apart from adding colour and vibrancy to an already stunning event, each artist’s name will appear alongside their work, with a QR code directing the public to their profile.”

The public will also have the opportunity to purchase original artworks at an auction to be held early next year, with all proceeds going to SIDS and KIDS ACT, a charity dedicated to saving the lives of babies and children during pregnancy, birth, infancy and childhood, and supporting bereaved families.

The deadline for submission of artwork is Monday 10 November, with works of art exhibited for the duration of the Christmas display from Friday November 28 to New Year’s Eve.

If you have a work of art that might fit the theme of Luminosity, and would like to have your work viewed by thousands of people, please email ideas@coordinate.com.au for more information
