Get ready for French champagne, cheese, and cinema at HerCanberra Ladies Night!

Oui! The beloved HerCanberra Ladies Night Out is back for another year, and we can’t wait to get cultural with you.

It’s one of our favourite autumnal events in Canberra, and this year our annual night at the Alliance Française French Film Festival is taking place on Thursday 14 March to bring you a luxe evening at the movies.

Have no idea what we’re talking about? It’s an evening celebrating all things French champagne, French cheese, and French film in the luxe surrounds of Palace Electric.

Starting at 6 pm, you’ll snack and sip on wine and cheese upon arrival (to help you unwind after a long working day) before heading into the cinema to settle into a velvet armchair to enjoy this year’s fantastic film – The President’s Wife.

Starring the legendary French actress Catherine Deneuve as Bernadette Chirac (the wife of Jacques Chirac, the former Paris mayor who became president of France from 1995 to 2007), this uproarious comedy is based on actual events.

Chronicling Bernadette’s campaign to restore her reputation and assert her role as first lady following her husband’s election, the movie is documentarian Léa Domenach’s debut film – and with the perfect mix of satire, whimsical musical numbers, and vibrant visuals, it sounds delightful.

Presenting a captivating portrait of an unexpected feminist icon (like how, instead of being celebrated for her tireless support of her husband, she found herself set aside and brushed off as old-fashioned, cold, and sour-tempered) while celebrating Bernadette Chirac’s resilience and wit, it’s the perfect film for a wholesome and fun night out with your friends – and us! Does it get any better? We think not.

There are only limited tickets available and at $40 ($35 for Alliance Française members), they’re selling out fast.
