Where would you go in Canberra for a happy ending?

Posted on

On Friday 1 November, it has to be Contentious Character Urban Winery in Fyshwick.

The Canberra Comedy Festival has teamed up with the crew from Contentious Character for a night filled with wine, food, and laughter and a comedy debate. Two teams of some of Canberra’s best comedians are sharpening their tongues to tackle the topic: ‘Everyone deserves a happy ending!’

Haven’t seen a comedy debate before? Expect  a wild mix of zany arguments and zingers from two teams trying to verbally slap each other silly.

Patrick Hornby from the Canberra Comedy Festival says, “All the comedians that come to Canberra comment on how smart our audiences are. We thought people would absolutely get on board for a comedy debate.”

“We know Canberrans are foodies and wine connoisseurs as well, so the fact the show is combined with delicious Contentious Character wine and food makes it even better. It is a distinctly Canberran event.”

The debaters are ready to play their part in this showcase. Tanya Losanno, captain for the affirmative, says, “Suma Iyer and Chris Marlton are on my side. We have the right mix of insanity and hilarity to win the audience over. We’re funny. And REALLY funny when you give the audience wine!”

Tanya Losanno.

Apart from being a brilliant comedian who has taken shows to Melbourne and Sydney comedy festivals, Tanya is also a marriage celebrant. On the topic, you would hope she believes that at least some people deserve a happy ending!

Carlo Ritchie is the captain for the negative team. You might recognise him as one of the regular cast members from Thank God You’re Here. On the debate he says, “My team has Caitlin Maggs AND Sarah Stewart. We have the moral fibre to say what everyone knows to be true, that some people shouldn’t have a happy ending, and their ending involves wolves. I truly pity the affirmative team.”

It looks like it is ‘game on’ for Canberra’s comedy debaters next Friday night. There are two shows you can attend. If you are looking for something different for Friday after work drinks there is the ‘show only’ event at 6 pm. At 7.30 pm there is a two-course dinner and show ticket. Contentious Character are serving up some gourmet options for the main, followed by a trio of chocolate fondue featuring strawberries, bananas, waffles and marshmallows!

Food and wine awaits.

Finally, we asked both team captains where they would go for a happy ending in Canberra.

Playing to her audience Tanya said “Anywhere in Dairy Road Fyshwick!” Unexpectedly after the wolves’ comment Carlo said, “The dig for bulbs after Floriade.” It is a good answer. But we also thought it had to be the nicest happy ending requested by anyone performing at a venue in Fyshwick.
