10 ways to celebrate Easter in Canberra

Belladonna Took

Want some simple ways to celebrate Easter in Canberra? We’ve got 10!

Hunt for eggs!

Hyatt Hotel Canberra runs two easter egg hunts for in-house guests, as well those dining in The Promenade Café and Tea Lounge.  The first hunt is 12.30pm and the second at 3.30pm.  Children can run wild in the Rose Garden to hunt and gather Easter Eggs!

Indulge in hot cross buns and Easter treats!

Woolworths, Coles and Aldi have shelves bursting with Easter goodies. Grab your hot cross buns from Baker’s Delight. Or for those extra special locally-produced Easter treats, check out our Easter goodies post.

Indulge in Easter treats whilst also making a difference

The Oxfam shop has some delicious fair trade Easter chocolates.

Sick of all the chocolate? Then give a charity Easter gift instead of chocolate.

For example, you can buy a duck or a chicken for a poor family or community around the world. Oxfam Unwrapped has some great charity gifts starting from just $10.

Adopt an orangutan

Or give the gift of orangutan adoption this Easter. Orang-utans are one of the most endangered and vulnerable animals on our planet. I’ve adopted an orangutan called Chocolate! But there are many more orphan orang-utans who need our help. Go to www.orangutan.org.au for more information.

Meet the Easter Bunny!

And his good friend, Alice in Wonderland, between 10am-3pm on Easter Saturday (April 19) and Easter Sunday (April 20) at Belconnen Westfield. The Easter Bunny and Alice will be handing out free Cadbury chocolate Easter eggs. The Easter Bunny will also be making an appearance at the Canberra Outlet Centre, Fyshwick, on Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday between 11am-2pm next to Donut King.

Celebrate Easter with the family in your own home, backyard or local park

Organise an Easter egg hunt for the kids, hold a classic egg and spoon race, or follow the Orthodox tradition of boiling eggs, dyeing them, then cracking them.

Keep the kids busy with Easter crafts!

Go to KidspotKinderartDLTKPinterest and Activity Village for some great Easter art and craft ideas.

Attend an Easter church service

Here’s a comprehensive list of churches in the Canberra region.

Get historical

The Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture in Barton will re-enact Jesus’ last days during their Stations of the Cross service on the grounds of the centre at 11am on Good Friday, April 18. All are welcome. Find out more here.
