Brand new CBR day!

HerCanberra Team

New look, new location

Forget the same-old…today a revamped Canberra Day was announced, complete with new look, new location and an exciting Canberra-centric program headlined by local band SAFIA.

“I am delighted to have an entertainment line-up full of local talent for a day set aside to celebrate all that’s great about this city,” says Chief Minister, Andrew Barr.

“I’m sure the renewed direction of the celebrations will be well received by Canberrans enjoying one of the many attractions available throughout the day.”

So, what’s new?

Canberra Day celebrations have been relocated to Patrick White Lawns in front of the National Library of Australia, where family-friendly entertainment including Captain Barnacle and his team of Octonauts will kick off at 2pm. Children will also have the opportunity to meet local sporting heroes.

Fresh from their collaboration with Canberra’s Peking Duk Take Me Over coming in at No. 5 in the Triple J Hottest 100, one of the country’s hottest electronic acts – Canberra band SAFIA – will headline the Canberra Day line-up. Local house music producer DJ Magnifik featuring Chanel Cole, Kayo Marbilus and Cris Clucas will appear on the bill alongside fellow Canberra stars Slow Turismo, and street artists Houl and Goodie.

Canberra arts festival You Are Here will also get involved by hosting a number of activities, while No Lights No Lycra Southside will stage RAVE CBR at a secret location to be revealed on the morning of the event.

The Forage food market will cater for the event featuring an array of local traders – this won’t be you average kebab van and chips line up.

“I encourage all Canberrans to come down to celebrate everything that is great about our beautiful city and show some civic pride through our new community brand, We Are CBR.

The ACT Government have also welcomed Actew AGL on board as the major sponsor for Canberra Day.

“Canberra’s community spirit comes to life at our great events and this year’s Canberra Day celebrations will be bigger and better than ever,” ActewAGL CEO Michael Costello said.
